I really like the sound the Naim and Excites are producing. I was also listening to Madeline Peyroux, and it was sonically wonderful, and I like her arangements and lyrics much better then Anne Bisson. Also, I listened to some Classical, Beethovans 9th, it was really good, a bit suppressed sounding, but otherwise very musical.

Im looking at buying a bunch of CDs here soon. Amy Winehouse, and Mahlers 5th is part of it, but Im also getting a bunch of Indie Rock, which is what I prefer.... Two Door Cinema Club, Grouplove, Fun, Young the Giant, and one other.... I cant remember atm.

Its very fluid and smooth, I get the pace and rhythm that people talk about with Naim. There is nothing clinical or dry, but its very detailed and lively... Im very happy with it.

Good to hear Steve! I'm so happy to hear that it's giving you such joy! :D:rock:

Rockin out to some Kings of Leon right now, and its nice how the bass lines roll so well, and the drums come thru, the background sounds really black and quiet, and just the music is there...

Do you listen to any modern rock at all?

I do.

Kings of Leon, a little Jack White, Mumford & Sons, some Arcade Fire and a few others. I'm not as passionate about seeking out new artists as I was, but I'm always open and ready to listen.

The hard rock, heavy metal days are behind me though. I still listen from time to time, but in small doses. It's an age thing I suppose.

I listen to less and less heavy metal and punk music also. I find the Indie Rock is more my current tastes, especially ones that blend a little jazz/blues in with it....

you can sample one Im really after on amazon if youd care to, the Two Door Cinema Club, tourists history. might not be your speed, but you'll see what Im into atm.

Actually...... My musical tastes run the whole gamut with the exceptions of most metal and hard rock (I do own Zep & Sabbath)

I do own in the Blues category Howling wolf , John Lee, BB , Muddy etc. in Jazz I've got Monk, Trane, Miles, Oscar, Brubeck etc. R&B it's Marvin, Curtis, Aretha etc. A lot of progressive stuff from the 70's Yes, ELP, Brand X, UK, Mahavishnu, Gong, New wave Talking heads, B-52's, Devo, Depeche Mode etc. Punk Public Image And too much Funk to shake a stick at.

Then there's my Classical and world music collections ........ Heck I even own some Yiddish Rap :p

So it really comes down to mood  ( I have no preference )

Wow, I got to hear some incredible speakers today, TAD reference monitor that cost $40k. Also the Dynaudio C2 Sigs and Focus 160s. The TADs were so holographic and put everything in space so well. Driven by Audio Research gear. It was about an $80k setup I was told. simply amazing.

you would have loved this visit John. I got to hear the new Dyn C2 Sigs with a high-end Luxman TT(I think that was the name) they played a couple Harry Connick Jr song, and it was very, very good. It was run thru some Boulder gear. It was fantastic, Harry hung out there in space and the instruments built around him very nicely. Good bass, lovely vinyl mid-range.... I was very impressed.

The TADs were a step up in performance. They were a little further apart in a different setup with Audio Research everything and a Qusonix server with hi-rez downloads, listening to Diana Krall. The TADs have some incredible bass, and the soundstage they throw is amazing. The tweeter and mid-range are pure berillyum, a 6" mid-range made of all Be, and an 8" woofer. The sound was probably the best I have heard yet.

My dealer told me that the bassist of Marroon 5 was there last weekend and traded in his B&W CM9s for a pair of Dynaudio Focus 340s.

I also heard the Focus 160s. Very nice speakers, the bass performance was a nice step up over my X16s, the mids and highs are a clear step up over the older 140s. Makes me almost want a pair of 160s now.

sorry buddy, I left to go payoff my dealer and audition speakers I cant afford.

Tell me some of the funk you would suggest. I have always liked funk and would love to get some to tinker with.

Nice choices. Ill have to look into some of those at the used music store in town and pick some up if I can find them. I love expanding my music categories.

umm... im sorry my computer blurred that last sentence..... I won't be able to respond to whatever that says.

The TADs are so good, its a good thing they are soo expensive. I was told they can play at very high volumes without breakup, better then most any high-end audiophile speaker out there.

That's a good thing..... (keeping the bills paid). And I too, always wondered what a pair of bookshelves that expensive would sound like after reading a cover story on them a year ago. It seems they're quite impressive ;).

Now I've dropped a few funk tunes on LDG's (Lawrence's) thread.... Let me know what you think.... There are several different styles within the genre and I could pass some along to you......

BTW......Good Morning Son :p

Just wondering about your vinyl collection. You just started collecting, right? Or did you have a collection before? How much have you spent since you it the TT.

One thing about the old vinyl dudes, they are lucky they don't have to start from scratch. Want to get into it but starting a zero is tough. Could try to ask my dad to send me his collection. Lots of classic rock.

Yeah the Xeos are sweet asnd great sounding and moreless an active Excite as they mentioned but don't sound exactly the same as they are not using any internal X-over, as it uses it's own IA with DSP.

Nonetheless i thought the X5 sonded very similar to the X32 so i certainly got a feel of what the X12 should sound like and i have to say that it's very positive.

Magicos, Magical :D what else to say, the Aluminum Cabinet construction is absolutely insane and I thought they were the most transparent speaker of the show, Abolutely breathtaking sound.

I thought the Sonus Faber were Fabulous too but I mean their was so many people in the room a proper audition like i had with the Magicos. I'll tell you more about my experience with the V40se and Focus 160 and 260, I got great auditions with the Dynaudio products as I was able to go in their room quite early so it was not crowded.

Damn you Rhett, When are you getting a pair? :p

I auditioned the 160 yesterday, we can compare notes... yea, the Xeo is an X12 and X32 built to sound exactly like Dyn wants them too.

See my post on the TAD CR1s above. Best speaker I think I have heard.

Have you heard the Magicos?

BigAl87 03-26-2012 12:58 AM

I might have to revise my plan :D i might end up buying the center first rather than last. I'll explain all this to you later and I took a lot of time discussing with Nico at Totem and I think there are some small adjustments I will do, I will still get an XS but it will be the next move after the center.

BigAl87 03-26-2012 01:11 AM

I was also lucky enough to get an autographed copy of Bue Mind from Anne Bisson, she was there and I was very pleased to meet her with her usual welcoming smile, I was quite happy as it is discontinued, she said she might rerelease it in neasr future but it's not 100%, she already worked on a new cover for it.

I think thats a good move. I really am not sure how much of an improvement you'll get from the XS over the AVR400, I have not heard the 400, but I have to think that the 400 is fairly musical and capable of building a good soundstage and revealing details. Now I have heard that the Naims are better then the Arcam IAs, but getting a better center channel I think would be a great way to go and give you a larger improvement in your setup.

I truly understand what his hype is all about, Tremendous Aluminum construction and i can tell you it's absolutely resonance free. it's such a transparent speaker, it's unbelievable. Now would I spend as much as 30K on speakers, Never unless I win a many millions.
