guys i know this is a different thread, but im new here and i cant post a new thread for my question. pardon me for the inconvenience.
im just quite needing some help over this problem im having with my fat 80GB PS3. Its just not able to play DTS HD MA when playing movies when its connected to our recently bought HTIB which is the Samsung HTD 5330.
Ok so i read a lot of information bout the old PS3 not being able to Bitstream DD TrueHD and DTS-MA even after having the update for the codecs. I tried hooking up my PS3 to the HT via optical. (thought this was the way to go) then HDMI from the PS3 to the TV. I went to the PS3's sound settings but theres no sound when choosing optical for the output setting. I called the samsung hotline and found out that the optical cable should run from the TV to HT instead. And choose HDMI in the Sound Settings of the PS3 too. It worked.. Games are outputting 5.1 surround which i assume are DD or DTS, whichever any format they have. But the problem is with Blu-ray that are encoded with DTS-HD MA, like I tried playing Angels and Demons and Fast Five.. The trailers at the start they do work but when it comes to the movie itself, There is no sound. I tried switching to LPCM. coz ive read that the old PS3s need to use LPCM instead of Bitstream.. But sound only comes out off two speakers. I tried playing a disc that uses TrueHD instead, and set it to Bitstream also. It works fine and the sound is fantastic.. Im just wonderin if my old PS3s just not meant to play DTS HD MA blu-rays.. I am actually considering of getting a new slim PS3 just to see if itll output DTS HD MA when connected to my HT. Or is my HTiB just not as good to work with DTS HD MA even if it is capable of playing it on its own included blu-ray player. Should I also look unto a different receiver then?
I hope you guys can shed some light on this, thanks in advance and happy holidays
