We are hosting an Oscar Party at the Booth Bijou Garage Theater. We'll have a full theater with 22 guests. Two of those guests have volunteered to be our chefs for the night and are preparing a nice menu of culinary delights. We will be showing 'Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri' at 2pm and then switching over to the red carpet pre-show when the film is over.
Speaking of red carpet, we have invested in a couple of red carpets of our own. ![]() There will be a 20-foot red carpet leading to our front door and a 15-foot red carpet down the hallway to the garage theater. We also have a bunch of Hollywood/Awards decorations to hang from the ceiling and for the walls (from Party City). We're hosting a 'Pick the Winners' contest for our guests, with prizes for 1st and 2nd place. Should be fun! ![]() Mark |

Unfortunately, my wife and I have come down with a nasty cold virus and we've had to cancel our Booth Bijou Oscar Party. I'm really bummed!
![]() Anyway, here are my picks for the big show. These are the ones I want to see win. The odds for Best Picture seem to be leaning toward 'The Shape of Water', but I'm rooting for 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri'. Both films deserve it. Picture: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Director: Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water Actor: Gary Oldman, Darkest Hour Actress: Frances McDormand, Three Billboards Supporting Actor: Sam Rockwell, Three Billboards Supporting Actress: Allison Janney, I, Tonya Original Screenplay: Martin McDonagh, Three Billboards Adapted Screenplay: James Ivory, Call Me by Your Name Cinematography: Roger Deakins, Blade Runner 2049 Film Editing: Dunkirk Production Design: The Shape of Water Costume Design: Phantom Thread Makeup and Hair Design: Darkest Hour Original Score: Alexandre Desplat, The Shape of Water Original Song: This is Me, The Greatest Showman Sound Mixing: Baby Driver Sound Editing: Dunkirk Visual Effects: War for the Planet of the Apes Live Action Short Film: DeKalb Elementary Animated Feature: Coco Animated Short: Lou Foreign Language Film: A Fantastic Woman Documentary Feature: Icarus Documentary Short Subject: Heroin(e) I think 2018 will finally be Roger Deakins's year and I bet the applause is deafening. We are showing 'Coco' and 'The Greatest Showman' this weekend. We booked up quickly and had people on a waiting list so we decided to add a second, earlier, showing of 'The Greatest Showman'. In all, we'll have 30 guests this weekend.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Showman twice in the Garage Theater. The film is so much fun, Mark |

Our guests absolutely loved 'Coco' and 'The Greatest Showman'. Both films (and both showings of Showman) received healthy applause. One of our friends emailed me after to ask how I got my hands on 'The Greatest Showman'. After leaving our house she went straight to Walmart to buy the film and was surprised when they told her it wasn't coming out on Blu-ray until April 10. In reply, I reminded her that I played it via my Apple TV and that the version I had was the digital (streaming) version, which was released on March 20.
I did a little polling last night and it seems most of our friends aren't all that interested in seeing 'Misery' again. The hobbling scene in that film gives them the creeps (as does Kathy Bates character in general). So, in two weeks, we will be pairing 'The Thomas Crown Affair' (1999) with 'Get Out'. I sent out the invitation email about 30 minutes ago and half the spots are already taken. Mark |

Wow, it's been awhile since I posted in my own thread.
We've been hosting an average of 2-3 movie nights per month. We showed 'Karate Kid' and 'First Man' two weeks ago. Coming up next week are 'Arctic' paired with 'The Wife'. The fun continues! ![]() Mark |

We are showing 'Arctic' as our B-movie and 'The Wife' as the main attraction on Sunday (tomorrow). This one didn't "sell out" but not because of the film choices. We just happened to pick a day when a lot of our friends already had other plans.
We'll have 14 guests, a nice sized group that will allow everyone to have a bit more legroom. Not sure what we'll be showing next. There's a dearth of A-list films being released on Blu-ray lately. I'll probably end up picking a couple of older films to show. Maybe a baseball theme with one film being the 4K version of 'Field of Dreams'. If we build it, will they come? ![]() Mark |

We decided to pair 'Field of Dreams' with 'Taken' for an older film combo that celebrates Father's Day month. One a father/son relationship film, the other a father/daughter relationship film.
Coming to the Booth Bijou Garage Theater next week. It's already "sold out". Mark |
