I might get it again if they provided the option to watch the movie with the original flashbacks instead of just having them in the extras.

I still can't get my head around the fact that the producers apparently thought replacing those was necessary, and that was done so clumsily.

Yeah the new flashbacks were not necessary at all. I was like wth? Wasn't impressed with the 4k on this one; just seemed decent or good. I still like the franchise even though the las one was completely forgettable.

I wonder if Sony will do a 20th Anniversary 4K steelbook for the first Underworld movie and possibly bring the 5-movie collection 4K box set to the UK this year.

The screams and sounds don't even match lol the original actress for Sonja might not look like Selene, but the original version of the flashbacks are more intense and shocking in my opinion compared to the Rise of lycans footage. Also f*ck revisionism.

Eh, I didn't mind. Makes for better continuity which I personally value more.

I may be wrong but isn't it only the disc from the 5-movie collection that was revised? The original release should still have original footage. That's why I kept both anyway.

The original DVD and Blu-ray version have the original version, all the 4k versions and some streaming services have the "revised" version.

The original release is only theatrical though.

Yes but it has the original footage right?
I'll need to rewatch it again I guess.

IIRC the original UHD is the theatrical cut but with the new flashbacks. The reauthored boxset UHD has both cuts with the new flashbacks in both. The old flashbacks are on the boxset UHD but as an extra feature, not for watching during the movie itself.

That is so confusing to me. Why?

Couldn't find the thread for the 4k box set. Anyway, why isn't Sony re-releasing these movies individually or another cheaper or even more expensive box set. It seems that if we didn't buy the first one, we're screwed. I'd love to own more than just two of the films on 4k....

Rumour says Sony is doing a Dolby Vision steelbook set a la Resident Evil.

I repeat, rumour says. I'd much rather have a less expensive, amaray set, that is not limited, but alas that's how Sony works.

I think Sony simply have a lot on their plate right now, with the Disney deal and all that, and Underworld simply isn't a priority.

The existing set already felt like one of their typical limited editions, while the Resident Evil one, for example, remains available to this day. So I think you're more likely getting a reprint of that instead of a full re-do.

When you talk like that, it makes me feel like we might not get that 50th Ann'y 4k DV steelbook for Close Encounters in 2027....
