I changed the player setting from 4:4:4 to 4:2:0 and the screen tear and ripple is now gone when I watch UHDs! So yay for that! However, I'm not sure I understand why it happened in the first place or what the difference is to begin with.

This is just one video, but it's probably better the a lot of them. Your display is having a hard time dealing with 4:4:4 Chroma sub sampling or your HDMI cable is of low quality, but more then likely it's your display. And with out checking UHD Blu-rays use 4:2:0 sub-sampling, so your player may be having difficulty upscaling the Chroma from 4:2:0 to 4:4:4. Here we go, again this is just one article I Googled. http://www.acousticfrontiers.com/uhd-101-v2/ What's your player and display ? Just curious. Last edited by Jeff R 1; 05-30-2017 at 02:41 AM. |

I would try another HDMI cable just to see, I had one of those Philips machines for a short while and that cable is pretty minimal, although there are some top quality cables that are quite thin. I came across some screen shots one time where Madvr was upscaling the Chroma (it took a pretty strong video card to do that, even at 1080p) and the difference was extremely subtle, you wouldn't see it under normal viewing. Even then I had to really look at the screen shots. It was "The 300". You could see some slight improvements in the reds and golds, but with out side by side comparisons, you would never notice the difference. What matters is that you're getting 10 bit colour _ colour banding from 8 bit is very noticeable. |

I'm assuming you have the player hooked up to HDMI "1" port. Even then, it's max Chroma sampling on that is 4:2:2. |

I would just sit back and enjoy that nice display.
![]() Even though it may be out of your price range I would try the Panasonic UB900. |

But in the sub menus there are adjustments for the Chroma. I've not had a chance to experiment with the controls so I don't know for sure if there would be much of a difference, but I would be curios to see on your display if there would be _ I was thinking that you may be too. ![]() I got it because my projector doesn't do HDR, so I wanted the SDR to HDR slider. If you get it from BB, you could always return it after 30 days. ![]() |
