USA Mario Bava finds Redemption and embraces Satan

Quote:
Some of Mario Bava's and horror cinema's most important films are to be released by Redemption on Blu-ray. The first batch includes the truly gothic masterpiece Mask of Satan aka Black Sunday starring the legendary Barbara Steele, the equally macabre Lisa and the Devil / House of Exorcism with Telly Savalas and the beautiful Elke Sommer with both versions included on a two disc release. Released at the same time is A Hatchet for the Honeymoon, Bava's intense depiction of insanity, oedipus-like desires and murdered brides all presented on a fabulous new HD master.

Forthcoming title(s) :

A Bay of Blood

The Whip and the Body
[Show spoiler]
Quote:
One of Mario Bava's finest and most gothic films, The Whip and the Body aka La frusta e il corpo, has just been signed to Redemption and will now be remastered from the original negative and released on Blu-ray. Starring horror legend Christopher Lee as a sadistic nobleman whose main pleasure in life is to whip his sister-in-law, played by the beautiful Daliah Lavi. When the nobleman is murdered his ghost returns and the beatings continue.

Amazing news, count me in line. Redemption Films are really coming through with eurohorror releases and quickly becoming my favorite studios. Their DVDs were good but often lower quality but Redemptions relatively early adoption (for a indie horror label) and speedy output has been amazing.

Edit: I wonder if I could just pay Redemption to mail me whatever release they come up with next; like a Redemption Film(s) of the month club.

Just my opinion, but I consider Lisa and the Devil to be the best one of these, and one of his best ones, overall. Definitely worthy of a blind-buy.

I'm glad they're planing on doing more. There's several I'd really love on Blu-ray.

Lisa and the Devil is great but i prefer Black Sunday of this bunch. my favorite of his overall is probably Blood and Black Lace, im a giallo junky. Lisa is probably #3 for me though.

Hey guys, how good is Bava's Planet of the Vampires? I know it influenced Ridley Scott when he made Alien and have seen some individual scenes but other than that, not many Bava fans mention it.

And so soon to boot! If they look at least near as good as The Iron Rose, Fascination, Lips of Blood, Rape of the Vampire, Requiem for a Vampire, and The Hills Have Eyes part 2 I'll be very very happy.

I'm in for all-- BAVA was a director that caters to my favorite element of older horror films....... mood and atmosphere..... wonderful films....

I agree...I definitely want it to see a release as well, since I never got around to buying the DVD.

Like you, I totally want Blood and Black Lace as well (I think I read about it being planned by another label somewhere on the forum...anyone remember that?)...throw in Danger: Diabolik, and I'm happy.
