No XMB on PS3 120GB - Blu-ray Forum

Earlier today I watched about a half hour of Star Trek blu-ray. I cut on my TV and PS3 and no XMB. All I have is the wavey background. I have a 46" Sony XBR9, HDMI runs from receiver to TV and PS3 is connected to receiver which is a Sony ES STR-DA2400ES. Everything worked fine until now. I have tried cutting off and holding down the power button. Still no XMB...

Weird. Is the BD still inside?

did you recently update your firmware?
I'm thinking it may be due to a failed update/install..maybe

That's the first time i have ever heard of that happening

Called PS3 support and they fixed it. Apparently a fairly common problem with PS3 120GB slim. Had to remove blu-ray which I had already done. Cut off PS3, hold down the power button until get 3 beeps then hold again until get 3 beeps and then system walks you through reseting system.

No firmware update.

I removed the blu-ray disc and it still did it. Even changed HDMI cables...
