Default The Best Zombie Film??

Ok this was a tough one. There are so many zombie films so I had to narrow it down to the ones I felt were needed and could actually garner votes. I mean there are so many Night of the, Day of the, Gangs of the, Dead of the etc.....so again I only listed what I felt were credible films that people know. So if I missed one just pick the next best one. Also I had an issue with a couple of films in whether to consider them "zombie" films and even got some feedback from a couple of people on this site. After the feedback and deciding on what a xombie movie really is I decided to leave I Am Legend and The Evil Dead (series) off the list. I went with the traditional zombie film, not spirits or vampires that have zombie tendencies. Anyway so thats that. Also list your favorites and worst zombie movie as well. Should be a good battle. My picks are:

Best: The Return of the Living Dead & 28 Weeks Later (voted TROTLD)

Favorites: (besides the 2 above: Dawn of the Dead (2004) & Planet Terror)

Worst: Land of the Dead & Quarantine

Got Em!!

I know it's a sin to say this as I love the original DAWN OF THE DEAD...

but the remake simply blew me away!!! It was awesome and would have been a perfect 5 star film (if the director hadn't pooped on it's audience AFTER the credits started!!) still, it's a fantastic move that got my vote!

Cool

Original Night of The Living Dead is my vote. This thread, and countless other zombie flicks wouldn't even exist without this film.
You're in my spot...

The best zombie film is the first by George A. Romero, everything else after was inspired by his work. You like?

While many movies have moved away from that kind of thought and have made many creative ways to get to "zombies" it doesn't take away from the true meaning of the word.

This debate has been going on for years, there is no right answer to appease everyone.
Yes in the very beginning zombies were brought back from the dead and infected the living which still meant that zombies were from corpse and living people. Regardless u are right, the zombie genre has branched out and now the infected that act like zombies are considered zombies. I basically consider someone a zombie if they go to eat people and are inhuman and can infect u and turn u into the samething. Whether they were a corpse or a regular human. Once u turn u turn. Got Em!!

This poll isnt "whats the first zombie film" its whats the best. Just because a movie is the first of its kind doesnt make it the best. Got Em!!

Dawn of the Dead (1978) all the way.

No contest here. I can't just watch a zombie movie for the sake of watching silly bloody gore. Dawn is intelligent, with themes that go WAY beyond zombies (to such distant themes as greed, materialism, etc). I havent' seen any other zombie movie that does that, or at least not with the chilling irony of using the zombies in the way that Dawn uses, with merciless efficiency.

edit: oh yeah, another reason that Dawn '78 is the shi%: soundtrack...that double beat track (DD...DD...DD...DD...DD....DD.....DD....) is killer.
