Default MISC. HT Talk ( ZIPPO )

My living room entertainment stand consist of: 4 pullout shelves, inside 2 Can-Am flip door deep pullout cabinets, on screw-in wheels, capped by a double length Mica top.
http://forum.blu-ray.com/album.php?albumid=232

Can-Am products are made in Canada & sold online direct from the manufacturer. More information can be found at the links below.
http://www.can-am.ca/index.html
http://www.can-am.ca/features.htm
http://www.can-am.ca/modular.htm
http://www.can-am.ca/AV-electronics-...o-cabinets.htm
http://www.can-am.ca/tv-stand.htm
http://www.can-am.ca/home-theater.htm
http://www.can-am.ca/docs/Can-Am-Catalog-US-96x100.pdf

I made my purchase in 2007 when I upgraded my living room gear & furniture. Ownership has been pleasant & problem free until last month, when I purchased a Emotiva XPA-5 amp. The pullout shelves capacity is "Will hold up to 60 lbs comfortably.".
I guess the Emotiva XPA-5( 66 lbs ) plus the SONY STR-DA5300ES( 33 lbs ) made it too uncomfortable.

Received the XPA-5 on 2-16-10.

Yesterday( 3-22-10 ) I noticed the amp & receiver getting closer in the middle. The weight of the receiver & amp was causing the shelf interior to bow/flex.

So I removed the amp, receiver & shelf.

As you can see, the shelf is hollow & has no crossbeam support in the middle . So my plan was to fill the entire underside with a very strong rigid material.

I made a run to Home Depot, grabbing: a plank of 3/4 inch Birch plywood, a tube of Liquid Nails( heavy duty ), & wood screws. I used the whole tube of Liquid Nails, weighed the wood down , & let sit overnight.

The next morning I marked, drilled, & screwed.

Shelf back in, time for a test.

3-23-10 Level!

While the cabinet was empty, I decided to add some Ikea Dioders to the underside of the flip up door.
( iPhone pics , will look better when I use my DSLR camera. )

I also decided to add a couple of these( for easier access to the receiver & amp rears during rewiring ). One will be mounted on the cabinet wall behind the receiver, the other behind the amp. They will be in installed later this week.

There is always someone who has to b the comedian....I like the lights Zippo. I use a single lightbar from my Cyron set in the same manner where you put your Dioder lights...I like the effect it provides. Very good job with the shelf too!

I have to say that the pull out drawer racks are a great idea.
That has to make cable connection,a lot easier.

And also like the way you strengthened that Amp/AVR Shelf.
Very Nice.

Thanks for the Links.
This could be a great help.

Sorry I had just finished reading ryan's thread about his new Calabrine and Zebra cables and how we was made an example of how cables make no difference in sound.

I was being flip. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I'm making the leap to plasma( Panasonic TC-P65V10 ) in the living room. Ordered last Thursday( 7/22/10 ), delivery this Tuesday( 7/27 ) or Thursday( 7/29 ). Fellow Ohioan & Blu-ray.com member DimeMecka( http://www.blu-ray.com/community/gal...a&folderid=861 ), will be assisting with the TV swaps/installs. Any advice on set up precautions or tips will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hey Zippo,

I think I've asked this before, but can't seem to remember the answer: Where in Columbus do you live?

Default Updates

Living room updates since post #1( http://forum.blu-ray.com/3066800-post1.html )

One of the best wire management solutions( adhesive backed cable tie mounts & cable ties ).

Left bottom rear corner of TV( Panasonic TC-P65V10 ). A/V cables to TV include: HDMI, component, composite, digital optical & antenna coax.

Cables zip tied to the TV...

Run horizontal along the bottom edge...

Down the wall...

& over to the gear cabinets.

Inside view. I used my Dremel 4000 rotary tool to cut two 4" x 10" openings in the 18 ga steel cabinet rear wall.

Rear outside view.

Drilled screw holes for the grills.

Behind the receiver.

The edges were very sharp.

I used Loctite super glue gel to bond a plastic protective grommet over the edges( no more cut hands/arms ).

I used a hole saw to cut an opening, so I could route the Emotiva XPA-5 power cord outside the cabinet.

A/V cables entering/exiting the wiring holes at the bottom of the cabinets( extended rear panel ).

Cables: HDMI, component, composite, digital optical, antenna coax, XPA-5 power cord & Furman Elite-20 PFi power cord.

Cabinet rear after wire management. A HDMI & a mini HDMI cable are routed along the right side of the cabinet. They are for my living room PS3 & my camera.

Behind the Emotiva XPA-5.

I also cut a hole behind my power conditioner( Furman Elite-20 PFi ), so that routing power cables would be easier.

Ikea Dioder control & power.

Ikea Dioders mounted to the underside of the cabinet flip up doors.

Game system cable bundle( Wii, GameCube, X-box, PS2, PS one & N64, connected to a game system selector ).

Grills on.

A power extension cord for my left front speaker. One for the right front speaker is located on the adjacent cabinet. Both extension cords are plugged into the Furman, so is the center speaker.

LIVING ROOM: Panasonic TC-P65V10, SONY BDP-S5000ES, SONY STR-DA5300ES, Emotiva XPA-5, Def Tech(BP2006 x 2, C/L/R2300, BP2X x 2, BP1.2X x 2)
BEDROOM: SONY KDL-52XBR5, SONY BDP-S360, Marantz SR6003, Energy(RC-LCR x 3), Paradigm(ADP-190 x 2), SVS PC12-PLUS

It's huge. It's 100% cotton terry cloth, kind of reminds me of a microfiber towel, light weight & low pile height. Not the plushest or heaviest towel, but it'll do!
