Blu-ray Samurai

BD-Live ... what a joke. What a con.
Has anyone else tried watching the new release of United 93 on Blu-ray? On my system, it complains until it gets access to the Internet, and then uses that access to download and display trailers and advertisements before you even get the disc menu. I tried skipping the trailer(s) with my "end of track" control, and it simply downloads and starts playing another one. Sheesh I hate advertising being on a disc you've bought! The big joke is that the disc displays banners, congratulating you for participating in an "interactive experience". The "interactive" aspect seems to consist solely of letting them download advertising onto your PC and make you watch it before you get to the film you bought the disc for. Not even close to my idea of "interactive". What a gyp. So .. yeah, I'm grumpy. |

^ Did you play it on a stand alone player? if so, that's pretty ****ed up.
I've never really got the whole 'BDLive' thing.. I think its kind of useless. One time I chucked in Hancock and did the BDLive thing.. all it did was download a crappy featurette.. the type you find on trailer websites. |

Yeah, my rant was kind of useless too - sorry folks!
But it annots me to see potentially interesting technology just pissed away by turning it into nothing more than another way to get us to buy. (Calling that an "interactive experience" is just an insult to everybody.) And especially since I didn't even go into the BDLive feature - this just happened from the launch of the disc. Oops ... ranting again! ![]() gollum_baahh.jpg |

I just wish someone would ban blu-ray java (or BJ for short). At least now most of the masterers are putting in resume functionality... |

What amazes me is that the studios seem to be completely oblivious to the obvious fact that most BD users want nothing to do with BDLive. Don't any of them ever read internet forums like this? Or do market research?
Panasonic Blu-ray players BD65 (UK model), BD75 (Multi-region US model), Denon 2930 DVD player (multi-region), Pioneer CLD1080 LD player, Panasonic EX77 recorder, Denon 3808 receiver, Panasonic 46PZ80 TV, 5.1 speaker system: KEF Reference Model 3 (fronts), KEF Model 200C (centre), Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 (surrounds), SVS SB12-Plus (sub)
