Default Ben Hur, etc, Netflix, Blockbuster missing

Why are not the great movies, Ben Hur, Ten Commandment, Sound Of Music, etc. not available from Netflix, or Blockbuster in Blu-ray.

Netflix told me the studio would not allow them to have these titles in Blu-ray.

That makes no sense to me.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me.

I was disappointed when I tried to order many of these titles and could only get them on DVD.

My only option is to buy them which I am not going to do.

Comments?

Thanks

I think you should buy them. Good movies with good replay value. Amazon is going to have a special sale for The Ten Commandments, which has awesome picture quality. You won't believe your eyes! If you get it, I think you'll think it was well worth it...

The main trouble with Netflix and other of that type, the main money is in new releases, it's what people are looking for so they never really bother stocking on older movies as they mostly never get rented

My avatar will Wait Until Dark for a Roman Holiday since this world as War & Peace
and it would be fun to actually have Breakfast At Tiffany's with My Fair Lady

Not allow? Pretty sure anyone can pick up a blu-ray at the store and then rent it. They probably mean they won't cut them a deal.

Netflix hasn't shown much interest in non-new release blu-ray's in some time. I noticed they started finally picking up some catalog items here and there when they had the whole split service fiasco, but for a while they stopped. They were good in the beginning of the format.

Although this may be a case where the movie is not stocked, do not forget that starting in 2012 Netflix will be diminshed greatly due to the studios not allowing Netflix to carry certain movies. It may be best to cancel your netflix and start to buy a movie per month instead. The following was posted in September in the News Section of this site:

Quote:
Earlier today, Starz Entertainment announced that it won't renew its streaming deal with Netflix. As a result, after the current deal expires in February 28, 2012, the Los Gatos, California-based company will no longer have access to content from the major studios, including Walt Disney Studios and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

According to Starz Chief Executive Officer Chris Albrecht, the company would like to protect the "premium nature of our brand."

Tony Wible, an analyst at Janney Montgomery Scott, commented that "Starz is what made Netflix's streaming initially -- this could be its downfall" and concluded that the lack of premium content could cost the company subscribers.

Sometimes we hear of people who are “very” honest, “mostly” honest, or even “a little” honest.
Should we even use modifiers with the word honest? I don’t believe so. There are no degrees of honesty. Either we are honest or we aren't.

It should, because:
A) Netflix doesn't buy their disks at Best Buy, they license them from the studios, and the studios make the rules, meaning
B) If it's a "Limited Edition", that means limited to not including NF and BB. The idea is to SELL as many copies to greedy folk as possible, not sell half their numbered stock to the rentals and keep it off the shelves.

I'm not sure whether Sound of Music is available as a limited or a disk-only title, or whether Fox has joined in on the Warner "Blame Netflix...uh, yeah and Blockbuster too, they're also doing streaming" game, but we used to have the same problem finding those limited Disney Treasures tins for rental.
