Default Simple Idiot's Guide to aspect ratio - Amadeus ??

Greetings -

I'd like to buy Amadeus -- the theatrical (therefore DVD) version.
It seems that (at least) 2 non-director's-cut versions exist --
one from '97 with a stated 2.35:1 ratio and described as anamorphic,
and another from '09 with a stated 1.85:1 ratio, not described as anamorphic.

Would I be best off with the '97 version?

Thanks,

- Richard
