I'm in need of new antivirus and wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I've been using Kaspersky Internet Security for the past 3 years. Lately though, it has been more miss than hit. Since I've had to reboot the computer a few times. Anyway, looking at VIPRE or Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2012. But don't know enough about either. So I'd appreciate some feedback if you've got any. Thanks.
Do you really have something to say or are you just in love with the sound of your keyboard?

I have been using the newest Norton and it has been working great. I have heard from others that Windows Defender or Zone Alarm are pretty good.

There are no degrees of honesty. Either we are honest or we aren't. Last edited by cvm; 02-18-2012 at 01:20 AM. Reason: Added CNET link |

I used Bitdefender for several years, would highly recommend...but I got tired of paying for antivirus...now I just use free Avast in conjunction with Malwarebytes and CCleaner as others have mentioned. (also spybot)
Can't say I have had any viruses in a long time...knock on wood.

Hackers/spammers etc have not gone after Macs because the owner base has not made it profitable yet, but now that more and more people are going to Macs it will be just as flawed if not worse...since Windows has had more time to identify and deal with viruses/malwares.
Mac Malware Threats Increase Mac Trojan is discovered Pirated iWork '09 installer may contain trojan horse Linux still has issues as well, maybe not as many...but I also think the people who use Linux are much more computer savvy than the average user.

they can actually mess up your system with their automated configuration stuff. It's not without reason I use about 2 programs for anti-virus and stuff, then just a couple for performance-maintenance and monitoring. I mean, I actually have TuneUp installed, but mostly for the "Disk Explorer" that it has, but I pretty much replaced that feature with Ashampoo's HDD Control, and the rest of TuneUp is not very much in use. You know how they say "a little goes a long way". Also, like many things, tweaking things manually works out better. There's no such thing as magically fixing a computer with software. (Not saying this to you Fragile Line, just general advice.) Also, I highly recommend Diskeeper, just great. Only it's not free.

It could be a bad driver or something like that, that causes you to be stuck or having to reboot or whatever happens with your system.

I can't really explain it, but apparently a virus got by and crashed the computer and KIS. Which made it impossible to do any type of scan through KIS. Like you, I've used it for quite some time and will most likely go back to it if MSE doesn't work out. I'm going to check out MSE for a week though and see how things go.

They're also having sales on more extensive software, so maybe also something to look into at this time. I would just install this, cause COMODO is quite powerful. It's really on top of everything all the time. They also seem to have a specific Anti Malware program for free: LINK I've never used this one I think, but maybe something to try if there's already something on your computer, as it might remove that.

You're free to try other anti-virus software / internet security suites, but keep in mind that there's no silver bullet solution to every virus and malware out there; the best you can do is mitigate their likelihood of happening. PSN/Battlelog/Xbox Live: ▌۩▐ PrivatePixel
