Well I finally got around to watching it and while I love the movie, the transfer to blu-ray is terrible. Alot of spots in the movie look as they are just upconverted DVD. Very dissapointed. Hopefully I'm not the only one that feels this way.

How can anyone claim HD-DVD is better than Blu-ray when things are that apparent??
I realize there are storage limits but Warner really dropped the ball on this one.

There were many people at places like AVS who claimed that Warner titles like this looked just great. Hard to believe, isn't it?

$10 off at best buy. Should I go for cheap or wait til it remasters?
Will it get remastered? What are the odds? |

All these questions about good or bad transfers would finally be put to a rest if the studios/directors gave some sort of public endorsement about a particular transfer or open to discussion. I think in order for blu-ray to really take off educating the consumer is must. All a title needs is a couple half ass reviews using technical jargon that no joesixpack would understand and it gets crap sales. Then we all lose eventually. |

Blu-ray Samurai

Imagine a pretty sharp looking film, but with compression artifacts in some scenes and edge enhancement in others. Plus black levels are pretty inconsistant. I'd say it's a below average picture quality, but an average PQ is ussually amazing in my eyes... if that made sense.

I wasn't all that impressed with the presentation on Blu-ray, but I enjoyed the movie.

While there's better transfers out there, this is nice upgrade over the DVD. I think that some people's expectation levels are unrealistic, and entirely misguided at times. For those on the fence that don't own it, I would recommend renting it first to see for yourself, and then purchasing or not purchasing after you've seen with your own eyes. As for me, buying it was a no-brainer to me personally. |
