Am I the only one disappointed that Transformers didn't win an Oscar for Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing or Best Sound Mixing? I thought it should've walked away with all three, or at least one of the previously mentioned.
Folks bothered by other folks not using the "Search" function probably spend more time talking about Blu than actually watching them.

In all seriousness, I enjoyed Bourne Ultimatum much more than Transformers and thought that they would win those two anyway. As for special effects there was some stiff competition from AWE, but I never expected Golden Compass to win. All the buzz seemed to be pushing for Transformers, that one surprised me.

I know this is the "unpopular" thing to say, but I was kinda glad to hear it got shafted. I personally thought Transformers was the most overrated movie in the last several years. The story was dopey (with a lot of dead end macguffins) the FX were blurry and you couldn't tell what was going on half the time when fighting, I could go on and on. I liked the original TFs and the animated movie, and wanted to like this, but it was just a mess as far as movies go. I haven't seen Golden Compass, but Bourne was a much better film. I am not trying to start a flame war here, this is just my personal opinion (which obviously others do not agree with).

The biggest surprise has to be Golden Compass winning. I think few people actually predicted that. I really liked the movie, but thought it was a long shot at best with Transformers being the lock. |

It might just be my personal opinion, but I haven't seen or heard a movie that can top Transformers in visual effects and sound in 2007. There were some good movies out there, but anyone not blown away by the visual effects in Transformers has to be smoking crack. Yeah, Kevin O'Connell deserved to walk away with this one for sound. Poor guy. Oh well.

The 1982 Disney movie TRON got snubbed from even being nominated. The commitee said they cheated when they used computers. Yet, if you know how much hand calculation went into the film, etc, you will see it should have received an award for scientific achievment!
Can anyone think of a single sci-fi film to receive such high respect? Star Wars, maybe? How many since then?

I, like most of America, didn't bother watching. Even though I saw No Country For Old Men, I didn't even care if Hollywood saw fit to give that an Oscar. I root for good box office numbers for movies I like, and in that regard Transformers did just fine.

The only reason I DID watch the Oscars was to see Javier and the Cohens win... no other reason. Maybe we will see Lebowski put out earler, now that the Cohens are fresh on people's minds again... Si o No?

I even thought that scene was better than the CGI polar bear in the Golden Compass. I figured if Transformers didn't win then AWE would surely walk away with it at least.

Now, if the Academy had been able to view Transformers at home with a lossless audio track and the highest PQ possible, maybe they would have paid more attention... No?
