Default Patton is Phenomenal!!!

So I just bought Patton on BD and I gotta say this is prolly the best blu ray i've ever seen...and i have about 100 bd's. the video quality for a 70s movie makes our newer movies look 2nd best. i urge everyone to go out and buy it. its absolutely mesmerizing to watch. and the dts hd ma track is great for a movie thats over 30 yrs old. wow...just awesome!

A lot old movies were shot using 70mm Panavision. So if well preserved, it will easily beat any recent movies which mostly shot on 35mm, Panavision or Super35.
Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.

agreed watching the 2 tape vhs/ dvd is like night and day compared to the blu-ray ... this is an amazing job done by fox and if every movie was done like it, blu-ray would have probly beaten every format out.... amazing movie! thank gosh for the level of care given to such a classic

Actually Patton was shot in D-150 an update on the earlier Todd-AO 70MM system. sadly infighting destroyed this format after this final and second film shot in the format.

Riiiiiiiiiiight!??!?!

Dude, this movie "blu" me awaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

I don't know how it escaped me all these years, but it was actually a blind buy for me and I have no regrets at all.

Excellent all around although the soundtrack can be a bit abrasive and tinny at times.

All in all...totally worth buying.

ALSO...see VIVA LAS VEGAS!!! The PQ is even better!!!

Thumbs up

It is super clean, but i see a lot of detail that i've never noticed on other releases and i've seen this movie a bunch. Yeah, maybe they should've left a little grain, but overall I think they managed to do a damn good job.

I luv it when the little kids salute him, and he gives that little smile for about a nanosecond.

Those shots make me worried about what I'm going to see on my 92" screen... but oh well, it's not like Fox is going to remaster it.

As long as they're aware that the real film fans are unhappy, and the people that like their film to look like video understand that they can use controls on their TVs to ruin the picture instead of having the studios do it, I think we'll be okay.

Just purchased it from Amazon based on the reviews here. Can't wait to see for myself all of the hype. Although, I must say, it's got to be great to beat I, Robot for PQ.

Adding to what Penton-Man said above and of his efforts with this issue, I also can vouch that key persons have heard and been made aware of the opinions surrounding the title.

Output made directly under their supervision is some of the highest caliber and has been praised by the community.

Now returning to the Patton title specifically, almost every other image quality parameter is top notch and it's just the softness of detail at high magnifications that has prevented it from being a perfect 10. For my personal watching I solve this partially by increasing the sharpness and augmenting the contrast moderately, maybe around 1.5 dBs and y1.15. I get a Technicolor looking image (high contrast/saturated), which seems to suit it fine, and manages to make it good enough to watch acceptably at 2.5 PH. In that manner it made the impression on me that in some respects it looked better and more vivid than watching it almost 40 years ago from a print on a curved 70mm D-150 screen (which I once did).

Looking better than the last movie did at my local metropolitan theater a few days ago for sure, Meatloaf would say 9 out of 10 ain't bad.

One thing for certain, it, and the other large format films I've watched digitally recently, have made me crave more for curved screen wide OLEDs.

This whole thread is insane. Patton looks absolutely pristine.

I have a 42" television, and have no intention of ever going above 60".

But yeah, it looks absolutely amazing.

I have a 60" and "Patton" looks gorgeous on Blu-Ray. The negative comments are crazy and insane, here is perfection and some people are not happy, very sad.
