Default How much will Pineapple Express make opening weekend?

Wow am I late with this weeks poll. So The Pineapple Express is going to make it interesting this week (as The Mummy did last week). Personally I think The Dark Knight will pull out one more week on top.

But the poll this week will be for Pineapple Express. So how do you think the new movies will shake out?

Pineapple Express sits at 69% on RT
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 is at 66%
and The Dark Knight is at 94%

I went and saw Pineapple Express on Wednesday and it was packed. Plus the movie is hilarious, I think it will do big box office but TDK will stay strong.

Considering this movie is focused towards stoners I predict 100 grand in ticket sales and 36 million in popcorn.

30 million for the weekend. TDK will be #2 with $25 million. The international smash, but domestic BOMB known as the Mummy 3: The Bello Catastrophe will barely manage $20 million in its second weekend.
Most anticipated release: The Hidden Fortress

Why are people not taking into account the Wed and Thurs numbers?

Sony will most definitely include Wed and Thurs in Pineapple Express's opening weekend take. No?

Deadline Hollywood's Nikki had this update at midnight Pacific time:

Quote:
FRIDAY MIDNIGHT: Very early numbers show Friday's box office is too close to call. Sony is claiming its Pineapple Express won the day. But Warner Bros is saying its The Dark Knight came out on top. And a third studio emails me that the two films are even steven. Oh, this is going to be a fun weekend at the two pics fight for domestic gross supremacy! So, either both films made $7.5+ million, or Pineapple Express made $7.6M and Dark Knight $7.4M, or else Dark Knight made $7.6M and Pineapple Express made $7.4M. Trust me, the studio emails are flying fast and furiously!
The Dark Knight should come out on top as R rated fair usually have a drop on Saturday while The Dark Knight should have a Saturday bump.

Keep in mind it is an R-rated film....so the 13 year olds can't get in. So they have no other choice they have to see Batman lol. cough...why they made die hard 4 pg-13...blah blah.

My prediction: Pineapple Express has a good opening weekened because of the Apatow following (that's why I went). However, I actually considered walking out on this one. It was a mess of a movie. I am scratching my head from some of the positive comments I am reading online. He's got a loyal online community because the theater was almost silent for most of the film's slow-moving 2 hours...or what felt like 3. There were few laughs unlike the other Apatow comedies.

I wanted to see this at first but I figured that there had basically been one preview for the entire trailer-run which led me to believe that all the funny parts of the movie were in the preview. And with those early estimates JasonBird gave us, I'm going to guess that TDK will be up top for one more week.

You got that right. The trailer pretty much makes the film look pretty good because it contains just about every scene which is remotely funny. I liked all of Apatows recent films but unfortunately this one was just awful. I like Rogen and Franco and their rapport works for the most part but the movie is just too long and the jokes very infrequent.

Guess it depends what site you get the numbers from to how close the race is. It's gonna be tight, but I think the Dark Knight has this one.

This movie was amazing. Right up their with Superbad. I am slightly torn on which movie I am rooting for this weekend. These were the two movies I was looking forward to the most this summer and they both exceeded expectations. Of course Iron Man and Step Brothers blew my expectations away as they were set a little lower.

Those are my four favorite movies of the year by far.

First of all, if it's anything like Superbad, I definitely will not watch it. It's like a seventh grader wrote it. Secondly, JBird, any early numbers for the weekend? I'm eager to see if TDK is number one again. If it is, isn't this like the first movie since Titanic to be number 1 this many weeks in a row?

Titanic was on top for 15 weeks, and that is not going to happen now. However, I will be curious to know the last time a movie dominated for four straight weekends in the Summer. Maybe that has never happened before.

'Dark Knight' Wins 4th Weekend In A Row With $26M vs 'Pineapple Express' $22M

SATURDAY PM: Studio sources tell me that very early domestic numbers show that Warner Bros' The Dark Knight won its 4th straight weekend after taking in $26 million, compared to No. 2, Sony's Pineapple Express with $22 million. The Batman installment's easy win was fueled by Saturday's +37% gross compared to Friday's, while the Judd Apatow/Seth Rogen stoner comedy fell -6% from Friday to Saturday. Full report on Sunday...

We're still waiting for official estimates.
