Default STAR WARS vs. The Lord of the Rings

Alright. I've searched the annals of past threads and didn't come across any that dealt specifically with this subject. So I'm curious: which one will win out on this poll?

PS While defending your choice and bashing the other, don't even try to use lines from Clerks 2 and claim them as your own.

Star Wars Original Trilogy because I can watch that at any time. Even though I enjoyed LotR I can't do repeated viewings.

To me it is a difficult question because I believe that Rings are better films from a dramatic standpoint, but Star Wars are slightly more entertaining and more fun to watch. But I voted for Rings because you asked "which is better," not "what is your favorite."

Storywise, LOTR is infinitely better but Star Wars is certainly more fun.

Well I can't be judgmental towards Lord Of The Rings because I've seen any of them. The only Star Wars episodes I like are Episode 3 and Return of the Jedi. I still need to see at least one of the LOTR movies.

If we were just talking the original Star Wars triology, it was much better than LOTR.

But since we are talking all Star Wars (and that includes the Pre-quils and Clone Wars and Ewok Adventure movies and Holiday special), LOTR wins as the better OVERALL series.

The Ewok movies and Holiday special were really bad.

The original Star Wars were great entertainment with episodes IV and V being cinema classics. However episode VI got a bit goofy and the prequel trilogy were a pale imitation of the originals.

LOTR were historic achievements in cinema that blended old style cinema techniques with state-of-the-art technology to create a fantasy world that was never possible before. On top of that, which the original Star Wars could also claim, they told a continuous story that reached it's climax and kept it's emotional power throughout the series, something Star Wars can't claim.

If you put it to me which of these individual films was the best, then I would have a hard time choosing, but asking what series is the best make the decision simple: LOTR

Lord of the Rings beats Star Wars hands down as we are including all movies total. Its a shame that Lucas wanted to continue the series after the Original 3.

The original StarWars were church, priest, tebernacle...clean and clear.

Anyone even thinking of comparing these two needs to see Clerks 2.

The original Star Wars by far, the first 2 LOTR films I really liked but not so much the third.

They’re both good in their own respects – I own both, and enjoy watching both for different reasons.

No offense, but whoever said that they both suck, has the worst taste in movies of any person in the entire universe.

Nobody has said that yet. At least on my screen it still says 0%.

The original Star Wars triology was the greatest trilogy of movies ever made.
But Lucas could not stop there. He had to add Ewok Adventure, and Battle for Endor, and Episodes 1-3, and Clone Wars. He even had to redo the origionals with changed footage.

Then you start thinking about this steaming pile:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Holiday_Special

To summerize:
The original Star Wars triology was the greatest trilogy of movies ever made.
But overall as a series, LOTR was better due to what happened after Episode VI.
