Arrow Moonraker

I thought it was very good, seeing this definitely makes me want to see more James Bond films. I was thinking Brosnan and Connery were the only ones who could do James Bond, boy was I wrong.

Although there are number of people who did not like Roger Moore as 007, I got familiar with the franchise through him. Moonraker is an excellent Bond movie.

Roger Moore was the James Bond I remember from my youth as well. I remember going to the theater to see Live and Let Die. It was my first Bond flick.

Moonraker was the 1st Bond movie I saw at the theater. The 1st one I ever saw was Live and Let Die on TV so I came to know Bond through Roger Moore. Even though Connery is the best Bond I still enjoy Roger Moore.

I bought the Blu Sunday at Target as part of their sale cause I had always wanted to see this film I didn't know anything about the storyline except part of it takes place in outer space.

I was shocked in a good way of how the film progressed. Those shots ( I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it) but the shots before the Opening Credit sequence are so amazing looking in HD as well as the rest of the film.

Great transfer, Great locales, and fun script.
Stop the Replacing of original Studio Opening / Closing logos! These are becoming endangered and should be kept intact. They are part of film history.

There are those Bond purists who will doubtlessly say "If you liked THAT mess...", and that's partly true--
"Moonraker" unfairly gets stuck at the bottom of the lists for directly cashing in on the Roger Moore 007's new sudden mainstream/popcorn summer-of-Star-Wars popularity after "Spy Who Loved Me", and if you're just catching on to the Moores now, that's the essential Moore-canon to watch next.

(Of the existing Blu's, "Live and Let Die" is embarrassingly 70's-dated, "For Your Eyes Only" is good standard 007 that was trying to get back to 60's basics and "apologize" for Moonraker's kiddy-cartoon populism, and...still waiting for May to Netflix "Man w/Golden Gun"--
Of those that aren't, me, I always thought "Octopus-sy" was underrated in having the right mix of later Moores not always having to take themselves seriously, but "View to a Kill" was a geriatric call for retirement.)

Default Moonraker - Pre Credits Sequence

Moonraker has recieved a lot of stick over the years but it was the perfect form of escapists fun when it was originally released back in 1979.

From a technical point of view, the movie was, (in part) far more satisfying than Daniel Craigs second outing as Commander Bond in Quantum of Solace.

Compare the excellent pre-credits sequence wherein Bond is ejected from the lear jet - SANS PARACHUTE, with the abysmal rehash of this sequence in Quantum.

In the former, you knew that someone, (albeit a stuntman), was plummeting to earth at an incredible rate of knots. In Quantum, we were "treated" to close-up shots of Craig in a vertical wind tunnel, with non-too-convincing blue screen projections, (with a little bit of CGI thrown in for good measure) providing the background plates.

Of the two, the Moonraker sequence was far more convincing than that in Quantum.

Perhaps it's time for us to start to appreciate the art and craft of the earlier Bond film makers.

Ok, they were held together with glue and bits of string - but the end product worked!

Brosnan? He was never Bond! More like Remington Steele.
