I recently played Alien vs. Predator Requiem, and right after "Jesse" say's "keep the change" in the pizza delivery scene(about a second or two), there is a loud, and I mean LOUD bang,or POP, in the DTSMA track! I thought at first it Extremely damaged my speakers. This is no little crackle, it rattled the entire system, and made my window "rattle". It scared the "you know what" out of me. Has anyone noticed this on their copy, or did I just get a "bad" copy. Before I got my S-350, I couldn't use the master audio track in full, I just got the "core" through my BDP-S1, so I never noticed any problems on this disc,or any for that matter. I have had flawless performance through my ONKYO 805, BDP-S350, up until putting this disc in last night to watch it.Has anyone experienced any problems with this disc doing that, or any discs in general? I would appreciate any tips. I really don't want to hear that awful sound again! It almost makes me afraid to play my other discs with DTSMA, because of it, but I'm thinking this is just a fluke. (i hope

sounds like you may be bitstreaming and getting whats knowns as the dts ma bitstream bomb. your 805 may need an update. you can download them online, burn to a disc and play through a cd player via optical to update it yourself

check your firmware first.
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=46176 i was under the impression that dts also had implimented a fix besides these updates. |

Wiil I have to connect an actual cd player, or can I use the 350(plays cd's), to do it.Also, do I have to go into my menu on the Onk,and reassign the optical to a certain input, or will it automatically do it .I was told that doing your own firmware updates yourself is very "iffy", and can cause severe problems if not done right. By the way, I'm using HDMI to bitstream.

not all cd players will work. my cd change/recorder did. ive heard ps3 also works if set correctly. any optical input should work. but it has to be assigned to any player your using like normal. your actually updating the dsp and not firmware

I believe it is the sound processing program. Click on ung4gvn94538s link he has all the info there, but first you will need to register your 805 on the onkyousa website
I took me a while to get it to work, but knowing that I will not damage my gear made it worth it

alos check avs forums for a 805 thread. the official one i just saw is limited on info. but the official 705 (which i have) has a ton of info. not sure if its the same but the 705 thread shows what buttons to press to check the dsp version you currently have. i would check that first before anything else.

I went to the onkyo site, and I can't find an update for the 805. It say's only 605, and nr10000?

Just make sure you have alreay registered your onkyo on their site before you do anything else. Actually reading UN4GVNs post a few months ago is how I got the fix

by contacting onkyo directly is exactly how i got the link for the dsp. thats why you have to register your unit.
anyway, you can try here as well for the update. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1016297 you want dsp update, NOT firmware update Last edited by un4gvn94538; 09-07-2008 at 03:42 PM. |

there no way to tell until you try. sorry. nothing to be nervous about. just check your dsp version first against what your burning just to rule it out. the avs link i posted also tells you how to do that. its real easy. just let it run its course.

Thank you to Cartman, and un4gvn94538, (hope I didn't forget anyone), for all of your help!!!!
I just did the upgrade(wasn't as bad as I thought), and it was a total success! Whew........now as far as if it will work with the BDP-S350......Heck yeah baby! Worked like a charm! So, I put AVPR back in and almost freaked,...no DTSMA displayed. (cause I had the HDMI out set to on).(reset all to factory settings)........but with a quick AUDESSY set up,and about 45min. of resetting station presets/etc.......We are back in business! Thank you again to all for you kind words and help!........You all are an asset to this site.
