The following is a list of recommended crossover settings used by most speaker manufacturers, not just to improve sound quality, but to prevent speaker damage:

Large floor standers: 40-60 Hz
Small floor standers: 50-70Hz
Large stand mounted / bookshelf speakers: 50-80Hz
Small stand mounted / bookshelf speaker: 60-90Hz
Small satellite speakers: 80-160 Hz

And here are my main setup options:

Speaker settings: 6 ohm
Speaker type: Bi-amp

Subwoofer: Yes
Front: 70Hz
Center: 80Hz
Surround: 90Hz
Surr Back: N/A
Surr Back CH: N/A
LPF of LFE: 80Hz
Double Bass: Off

Equalizer: off

Woah, my settings seemed to have riled up quite a bit of ruckus.

I fixed 'em up a bit too like everyone suggested, disabling both my equalizer and bass/treble. Voices got a bit more 'real' and clear. Everything else sounded like shit, like it was all screaming in my face afterwords. How can I explain this to you all... it sounded like it was coming from some old cheap mono setup where everything comes out together and sounds distorted. Turning it up too loud sounds like nails on a chalkboard. That's AFTER I changed everything back to normal.

You're not going to believe what brought back my 'wow' affect. I checked the Level Calibration, and they were all like -10. I turned them all up to 0 and I got that nice crisp sound back along with the sharp voices. Audessey just sounds terrible, and I have a good feeling it's the size of my room and where I sit.

I don't use Audyssey nor have I ever heard of a speaker manufacturer recommending a crossover point - they're only concerned with their internal crossovers.

A THX calibrated system will be crossed over at 80Hz for all speakers.

I happen to prefer opening up my fronts and rears to around 50-60Hz as they have ±2 dB from 48 Hz - 20 kHz.

I don't like using full range anymore as I find the bass to be more articulate and responsive when the Servo 15v2 is handling the majority of frequencies under 55Hz. Sometimes too much low-end through your fronts and rears can interfere with overall bass response.

Sure, they're not audiophile speakers, but they are from Polk, and it's where I got the information on the 6750's from.

Panasonic TC-P50G10 1080p Plasma | Onkyo 805 | PS3 Slim | Xbox360 | Wii | APC H10 | Harmony One

Mostly I use it for distance and EQ calibrations but I always end up tweaking my crossover settings.
I faced with the same problem on Onkyo 805 by having its Audyssey putting all my speakers (front, centre, surround) to full band using auto setup - but in fact they're not (the specs. of front & surround indicates 65Hz lowest, and the centre 85Hz lowest). So I manually changed it to 80Hz for all (front, centre, surround), and set the LFE cross-over as 80Hz.

My question is: By retaining the Audyssey's EQ settings but manually changing the cross-over frequencies to something else, will it mess up the overall tonal balance?

Yes, the harmonics will be different. I have the 605, and after running Audessy, I can choose it as the default EQ, but it won’t show me what settings it has chosen. I find it best to leave everything at 0, making just slight adjustments to the 2500 & 8000 range to tone down some bright speakers.

No, it's not a problem to change the crossover it will not affect the Audyssey filters.

Here's a link to the "Audyssey Setup Guide" on AVS, Chris from Audyssey monitors the thread and chimes in whenever possible, the guide was put together with his help. This is a excellent FAQ for owners of Audyssey units.
