[Show spoiler]In the heyday of disco, one of my old coworkers had a fancy stereo system...the calling card of young men in the 1970s. For whatever reason, in 1979 or so, he decided to sell off his system.

I bought his Sansui 9090 receiver.

My friend Wayne bought the matching Sansui SP5500X speakers. The speakers and receiver went their separate ways for 38 years...until last night!

Some months ago, Wayne (still my friend after 40 years) offered me the speakers (for free). He brought them over yesterday. They are lovely units that have been gently used. Wayne says he never cranked up the volume and has used them very little. They have NEVER been serviced... they are out-of-the-box original. That woofer is 15". There's a pair 5 1/8" midranges, a 6 1/8" horn tweeter and a 2" "Super tweeter". They weigh 46lbs. each. They sound perfect. If there is any flaw, it's beyond the range of my hearing. I've done about 2 1/2 hours of listening with them since last night.

The source of music is a Japanese built Technics SL-PG340 CD player from 1993. Now, I just need to get my old AKAI AP103C turntable hooked up to it.

What a great story, to go with a great lookin set of speakers, and I'm quite sure, sounding as well.

Thanks for sharing. One of things I enjoy about buying vintage gear, is the story that tends to go with it. To cool. Who would have imagined that you'd both have kept them.
