Default Subwoofer choices

Any personal experience and pros/cons regarding these subwoofers

1) HSU VTF 2 MK5
2) BIC Acoustech PL-200II

Looking at some options and want to hear feedback from people who use these or have heard these in a home theater setting. I may end up doing two PL-200II so I have dual subwoofers or buy 1 HSU and only have a single sub. This will be in a nice sized room (approx 20x24). I realize the HSU is a better sub but am debating on the PL-200II because I can buy dual subs now, with the HSU I will keep it to one. Debating on if it would be a huge difference between those setups.

I don't have experience with those subs, but was at the same cross roads a few years back. I had a 500 dollar budget was deciding to buy an Epic Legend or two lesser subs.

I got the Epic Legend, with the thinking that I could add a lesser sub later if needed. However, the Legend completely took care of all of my bass needs and an additional sub was unnecessary.

In fact, the Legend is overkill for my HT and I only run it at about 40% gain. I am not an electrical engineer, but I am assuming that this is better for the amp and sub/speaker, since I am not taxing it for output. And it has some space above the listening volume to expand, like when the Death Star blows up, it can get super loud. Whereas if you had a lesser sub(s) running it at 80-90% gain, you would be running them hot at all times, and they would not be able to dig deep when called upon because they are already at or near their max output.

So I say better sub, bigger amp, go HSU.

If your budget only allows for one of the HSU's...buy one now, and another later on. That's just my opinion. Yes, dual subs will be better as far as output, and even bass response in room...but you will always wonder what dual HSU's would've sounded like if you get dual BIC's.

Get the biggest sub you can afford now and then save for a second down the road. No more "what ifs" if you do it that way. Look at JTR, PSA, Rythmik as well.
