Ironically, you have have quoted the EXACT page I've used before to prove my point.

"Subsection 6(9) of the Regulations provides an exemption from the bilingual labelling requirements when the product requires knowledge of a language for its proper use (i.e. greeting cards, books, talking toys, and games). The label information for these products may be displayed in the language appropriate to the use of the product."

That's precisely why BDs with no French soundtrack have no French on the package. "The product requires knowledge of a language for its proper use" (English).

Go into any store selling BDs and you'll find a ton of BD's with no French on them.

In fact, the exemptions and exceptions are too overwhelmingly numerous to list.

I despise the French labeling. The only place I actually get it though is when I order from Amazon.ca. I can walk into any local store and every single Blu Ray title is English only.

Being on the Pacific coast in BC though, we are basically as far away from Quebec as you can get, there is no reason to have French on any labels. It would make more sense here to have Mandarin on the labels... But really the English only are fine.

Anyone know for the Hobbit extended trilogy box set? Amazon.ca shows English only packaging as the stock photo, but want to make sure.

Haven't taken mine out of the shrink wrap yet but it looks like only the info card covering the top and back of the box is bilingual. The actual spine and front cover of the box is only in english.

I saw one in a second hand shop and seem to recall the cases inside having bilingual artwork. Are they not the same cases as the individual releases (i.e. not a digipack)?

Yup. Unfortunately there's french all over it. The spine isn't as bad as you'd imagine though...

Not all of them. I just saw a regular BD set that had no French on cover or spine (only back card). Right next to it was a UHD set that was fully bilingual on all sides. I can post pics later tonight.

I can second this. Last week when I went in store to pick up Cars 3, there was no French on the standard Blu-ray, Steelbook, or the Tin-box that I saw. I had mentioned in another thread, most of that day's new release product was still in boxes on the floor when I arrived, but I did not look for WestWorld myself. There were only a few copies on the shelf that I can speak for.

Foreign text on the cover doesn't bother me, helps me identify things bettr than just one american release bein sold in like Japan with no jap text aside from the back of the cover.

Yeah, but... he was asking about the 4K. Which as you also pointed out is covered in french.

I didn't get the tin. I got the regular 4K Slipcase version. That's the one with french on it.

The only place I've seen the Metal tin version of the 4K release was at Sunrise. And if I recall correctly, it did not have french on it.

Yeah, Sunrise has the tin, just wondering if the packaging inside has french on it...want to buy this so badly, but need confirmation first!

Unless you are obsessed with the tin case itself I would get the regular English blu-ray. The 4K is not good on this, unless you have Atmos sound.
