Slasher//Video are right up/down there with Raro in terms of delivering the most consistently shoddy product of any label in the business, bar none. At least Slasher//Video are upfront about it when they use upconverts, unlike Raro.

My gut feelings about blind buys usually serve me well. I had a bad gut feeling about Victims!, but I pulled the trigger anyway because I generally love slasher movies. This is not a slasher movie in any real sense, though.

'Tis a shame. I've always disliked snarky or ironic movie reviewers, because I'm of the opinion that there are not enough critics these days who convey the true joy of watching movies in general. In that sense, I'm pretty good about finding something to love in most movies that I watch. With Victims!, I really tried, but no dice.

Anyone care to help me make sense of the latest facebook post from Slasher Video? I can't share the image as I'm working, however it's a shot of 2 screens from a work station that they have set as their cover photo. On the top screen is Slumber party massacre 2, on the bottom screen is a shot from a film that I am unfamiliar with. Since Scream Factory released Slumber Party Massacre 2 already I am a bit confused by it's inclusion from Slasher Video on this post. It's possible that it just happened to be on in the background while work was being completed on the computer, however this seems improbable so I'm curious to hear what folks know/think.

Edit: Home now... here's the image.

Yeah, he mentioned it's Joanna Angel.

She's apparently been in several "Slumber Party" videos + game, so I guess that's partly the Slumber Party Massacre 2 connection...maybe.

Oh I didn't see it mentioned.

Maybe they are doing all her horror parodies?

Oh my this label is sinking to new lows. They started off with such potential, Satans blade in a beautiful 35mm scan.

Since then they have released nothing but VHS rips. Unwatchable garbage like victims.

I Really think Olive should drop them and it's time to close the doors if p*rn parody films are next.

They are not doing Joanna Angel's porn parodies

I haven't seen the movie yet so I can't confirm the exact frame, but this is likely from the upcoming action/horror movie Streets of Vengeance. It's from the director of Cinco de Mayo (a previous Slasher // Video release) and it's kind of an 80's throwback. Joanna Angel has a cameo in it, but the movie is not remotely porn.

As this is a newly shot movie, there should be no problems getting a real HD transfer, so it should break Slasher // Video's string of upconvert releases as well.

Looks like they announced Trashology VOL 2. VOL 1 was really rubbish, so easy pass.

Can't tell if you're trolling or not. Satans Blade was absolute garbage A/V compared to the UK blu from Arrow.

At the time, the release blew me away. I have only watched it on a crummy VHS for the past 20 years. Though having said that, It did have a strange aspect ratio. What Iím saying, thatís the only release they have done a proper transfer on. All the others are absolute garbage. All these VHS rips are just a waste of time.

Satan's Blade also boasted famously awkward/ineptly shot interviews.

Often this is just a function of what titles labels are willing to license to please their fanbase. For instance, Arrow has only released a single title out of the various Fernando Di Leo titles Raro released because that is the only one Arrow could put out with a really nice master. The rest they just ignored.

While its nice to have labels that put out only titles they are able to get good materials for, its also nice to have labels that put out other titles that would never make it to Blu-ray (or DVD) if it required the label having good materials.

On the other hand, Slasher goofed up the 25fps conversion on Mankillers badly and this is an example of where they can improve. Satan's blade was also misframed, but thankfully easily fixable with a center zoom nearly all Blu-ray players/TVs support.

Wait, did Arrow do a new transfer on Satan's Blade? Or is it just properly matted? I'm confused. I guess I assumed they just used the same transfer and matted out the boom mikes.

Also, I think Victims may have looked worse than the VHS rip out there.

The good thing about the slasher video release is that even though the OAR is botched, you can use the standard 1.78:1 digital zoom control (or optical if your projector supports it) for 1.33:1 nonanamorphic material and the framing should be very close to OAR. Not ideal, but a very solvable problem thankfully.

I don't really know much about the Arrow release.

Watched Satanís Blade last night. Despite the implausibility of a place where you can
[Show spoiler]ski and open water fish
at the same time, I kind of liked it. Underneath the damage, the detail of the print was actually pretty good. No use of any kind of matting though was atrocious. You could have parked a truck in all that open space at the top of the frame. Will definitely check into the Arrow.
