Will it be as good as the French Metropolitan release?

No idea. I don't own the French release and I don't own any Wicked Media releases, so I can't vouch for their quality.

I do own the German 16:9 uncut DVD of Necronomicon and it looks quite good upscaled. If they use the same print it should be a quality release picture-wise.

The French blu-ray is excellent in terms of pq and aq and extras. You'll also get a nice booklet with Christophe Ganz discussing this movie and his career. Unfortunately it's in French. Wicked-Vision seems like a very small company, so I wouldn't get my hopes up too high, although their release of The Brood is supposed to be a good one. Looking at their catalogue it's going to be a mediabook.

Metropolitan co-produced the film and Christophe Gans is part of the company's "family" so they have and own all the material at their disposal. And their masters for their own movies usually are the best. Would be hard to top that.

I can confirm their The Brood release is top-notch so I wouldn't worry about Necronomicon
Blu-ray wishlist: Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971), Full Circle: The Haunting of Julia (1977), Fire in the Sky (1993), When a Stranger Calls Back (1993), Eyes of Fire (1983)

I wonder what's going on with this release? No updates to be found on their facebook page (they don't seem to have their own website).

On the contrary, they do have their own website: http://www.wv-media.de. Unfortunately, it is currently undergoing a revision.
But Necronomicon will be released. Wicked is a very small company, so it takes a little longer to finally release a title after announcement.

Their releases are usually pretty massive and extensive. They spend a lot of work to produce great discs. Take their Jean Rollin Collection: These are the best Rollin releases in the world. Far superior than the Lorber discs.

Necronomicon will be released, probably by the end of the year, I guess. So far, they have announced a bunch of titles for the next months. Ifaik, Necronomicon has not been mentioned with a release date. So we'll have to wait for a little while.

They aim for a November release.

I own the French version, which is great, but I'm still curious what WVM will come up with.
