And Paramount said "you know all these HD masters we have for streaming sites? You can't release any of them on disc."

You have proof of that?

LOL. "Proof". Anyone who did would be prevented from saying so by an NDA. Were there some titles WB didn't bother to release because their marketing saw little profit in doing so? Sure. But that's probably in the low double or even single digits. What WB released was still more than Paramount has themselves in the time since the deal expired.

Yes. Warner only handled distribution. They did not pick and choose what was released and they used the masters Paramount provided.

Here. Here's the original announcement.

http://deadline.com/2012/10/warner-b...n-deal-348266/

It was only 600 titles, most likely the majority of them ones Paramount had already released. None of the major franchises were part of the deal, minus Friday the 13th it seems, and that was that. It's not like WB had free and total access to all of Paramount's titles. They only got what was given to them. And outside of Shane and a couple Audrey Hepburn films, it doesn't seem like Paramount parted with very much that was unreleased on Blu.

Oh, and since Paramount retained digital rights for everything, it's pretty bloody well likely they did say "you know all these HD masters we have for streaming sites? You can't release any of them on disc.", since disc releases would conceivably cut into money they would be making.

Does anyone know if this deal is still in place? I'm trying to find out who has the rights to Soapdish (1991) so I can hint at them for a potential blu-ray release. I don't know how anyone keeps up with which studios own which titles. they change hands so much. Do any of the boutique labels have a deal with Paramount maybe?

No. Paramount has been re-releasing the Blus that Warner distributed.
Always so many BluRays. Never enough money.

Title ownership rarely changes hands absent acquisition of an entire library. That doesn't happen often. Licensure is a different story.

Even skimming the last, say, 10 pages of the thread would likely be edifying. Most of "us" feel this deal was a dud.

Good luck with your "hint" campaign. And to directly answer your last question, "No." I note that Soapdish is available (in HD) on Amazon Video and STARZ on Amazon. I'm sure they're occasionally glancing at how many HD streams their titles are getting. But I'd surmise there's little to nothing there that would motivate them to release this on BD.

I think the fat lady sang on a lot of these kinds of "deep" catalog titles' BD prospects, say, about two or so years ago.
A few wanted UHD BDs: Road To Perdition; Eyes Wide Shut; The Last Samurai; Training Day; The Matrix; 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi;
Amadeus; Casino; Vertical Limit (2000); Gattaca; Bad Boys II; Crimson Tide; Master and Commander: The Far Side Of the World
