Just finished The Killer is Loose. Great transfer and audio, another great Classic Flix BLU. The story line is very simple and the movie is a tight 70ish mins.

I kind of like the charm of these old B grade crime movies they certainly always feel a little bit more charmingly amateurish than a Hollywood backlot film. This one has some good locations and nice cast... and a few crazy moments that I didn't see happening. Nice escapism and a great BLU. Looks like Classic Flix licensed this title from MGM

Couple other bits of news:

Via Facebook, T-Men still forthcoming later this year, with a commentary by "someone well known to the Noir world" (who isn't Eddie Muller). Any guesses?

He Walked by Night commentary recorded with Julie Kirgo and Alan K. Rode.

(Also, based on this comment, it looks like the Mann/Alton box set may no longer be happening. )

I'll re-post my reviews of the first two ClassicFlix film noir releases here for reference. I'm hugely impressed with this company!

Bette Davis (All About Eve) stars as a conniving mystery writer who is enjoying an affair with her secretary's fiancÚ. Her life is turned upside down when she receives an unexpected visit from a mysterious man, played by Gary Merrill (All About Eve), who claims to be a partner in crime to her estranged husband and who threatens to use incriminating evidence against her. As she struggles to rid herself of this man, all the while avoiding suspicions from her lover, her secretary, and a nosy veterinarian who lives next door, a deadly cat and mouse game ensues.

Another Man's Poison is a fast-paced 90-minute film noir that held my attention from the first scene onward, and I found myself laughing at the insane fixes that Davis's character kept getting herself into. Davis and Merrill were married in real life, and their onscreen rapport is instrumental in driving the story.

Another Man's Poison is the sort of movie that I cannot summarize in detail without spoiling the entire thing, but I'll just say that the conclusion is perfect in every way, and it made me want to cheer out loud during this first viewing.

This ClassicFlix Blu-ray is a no-frills affair with no extra features, but the picture quality is outstanding, the audio quality is a spot-on match, and the inclusion of subtitles is most welcome.

Joseph Cotton (Citizen Kane, The Third Man) stars as a police detective who corners a bank robber accomplice, Leon Poole, played by Wendell Corey (Rear Window, Hell's Half Acre) at Poole's home. After Poole's wife is accidentally killed in the crossfire, the captured Poole decides to wreak vengeance by escaping from prison so that he can hunt down the detective's wife, played by the beautiful Rhonda Fleming (Out of the Past, Cry Danger, Inferno). As Poole leaves a trail of corpses behind him, it's up to the police force to protect the detective's wife at all costs.

The Killer is Loose is a fast-paced and riveting film noir that flies by with its 73-minute run time. All three lead actors are terrific in their roles, and, although Fleming's character makes several empty-headed decisions that compromise her own safety, the actresses's charisma makes up for the character shortcomings. This movie also benefits from a strong supporting cast, including John Larch (Dirty Harry, The Amityville Horror), Alan Hale Jr. (Gilligan's Island), and Virginia Christine (Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Mummy's Curse). The movie's darker noir tendencies stem from the fact that the villain, Leon Poole, is so mild-manner at first, illustrating the notion that anybody around us in everyday life could be a cruel killer.

This ClassicFlix Blu-ray looks quite good, with an impressive sound quality to boot. No extras are included, but we don't need them since the film is so great.

Looks like no one's started one yet, so here goes. Looks like a great little label that does their own restoration work. Releases include booklets, can order direct from them with cheap media mail option.

That bundle is a good deal if I didn't own half of them. I will likely pick up some of their titles in the upcoming BN 40% sale.

For those curious, that 6-movie bundle saves you $6 from what you'd pay for all separately. not a huge discount but still a fine way to stock up. I'm a bit tight on cash flow so I might test their service with the first couple releases. I know it's $2.99 Media Mail for one release, not sure at what point that increases.

B&N carries their stuff? Good to know and surprising for such a small, new label.

Yeah, their prices are pretty good compared to average price on Amazon. I wasn't aware of B&N stocking this line. I'll check it out if they aren't excluded from sales.
