Germany Tank (1984) (2015 Release)

Apparently, it's Region free, which will likely please a lot of American fans (like myself). I know a few of you own a copy, so, for those who do, what's the lowdown? How good does it look? How good does it sound? I'm not gonna bother asking about about extras since I'm pretty sure there aren't any. Since its 1080p rather 1080i and runs at its proper speed with a runtime of 113 minutes rather than 108, it goes without saying that it's an improvement over Lighthouse Home Entertainment's 2012 release. But how much of an improvement? Is it worth importing? I want to hear every opinion.
Look, Dr. Lesh, we don't care about the disturbances, the pounding and the flashing, the screaming, the music. We just want you to find our little girl.

I picked this up cheap about a month ago. It's just okay, to be honest. It's 1080p but the image is DNR'd so it looks like an ancient HD master that was lying around whose detail was scrubbed out (like a lot of Universal's early format releases)

Looks similar to the movies that have cropped up in those Universal-licensed Blu-Ray "boxes" Germany has been turning out -- older masters, something that's been shown on Netflix streaming, etc.

It's better than the 2012 release, and it's better than DVD, but it's not great. Still under $10 it's likely worth importing if you're a fan. Just don't expect a whole lot.

It does have US/German trailers and a gallery of lobbycards.

Well, hey, at least there's finally a widescreen release we can own in the States.

Has anybody seen the latest release from October 2017? Any improvements? Is it still region free?

I'd like to know if it's region-free as well.

The 2017 release (Koch Media) with the blue background is Region B locked.

Top Menu got me to a splash screen with the theme music playing, but there was nothing to select and I was unable to figure out how to make the movie play.

Good to know. In that case, it's a good thing the 2015 release is still available.
