Seeing The Post tonight.

I love Streep, can pass up Tom Hanks, so I'm not sure how much I'm going to enjoy this film.

Political dramas can be very hit or miss.

Black Panther

This movie has been way over-hyped. It felt long, drawn out and at times - frankly kinda dull. Itís a shame that modern day identity politics have slowly squeezed their way into Marvel comic book movies.

In saying that, the acting was strong, certain action scenes were fun and the costume design was very creative. The movie is standalone, so you donít need to see it before Infinity War.

Guess it's one i'll avoid then. It's no shock that it's started to happen, it's just a shame if it truly is there.

Might add some individual comments later but seen these at the cinemas over the past month:

Molly’s Game - 5.5/10
The Florida Project - 8/10
The Shape of Water - 8/10
Wonderstruck - 8/10
I Tonya - 7-7.5/10

The Florida Project and The Shape of Water currently my two favourites from the 2017 crop of movies (seeing Phantom Thread and Lady Bird later this week).

Did you manage to see Wonderstruck in the cinemas and if so what did you think?

It was a hard one to catch in theatres, luckily here in Melbourne there was a screening at The Astor.

I saw it at the Melbourne Film Festival. To my knowledge it has not played in Sydney. I enjoyed the film but it was one of those oddities that had me wondering 'why and who was it made for'. I'll definitely purchase a copy of the film on Blu Ray wherever it shows up first.

I might wait for the home release then, as the past few Marvel releases has been either same same but different / a bore to me.

I fell asleep seeing "The Post".

Phantom Thread: Fascinating and twisted
Lady Bird: Exactly what the trailer advertised, thumbs up.

Very annoyed about this aspect of the release of Lady Bird :

http://www.refused-classification.co...html#lady-bird

If you haven't seen it, wait for the home video release which should be unaltered.

Wow, thought NZ and Australia would get the same cut, but NZ seems to have got the uncensored one when I saw it at the theatre.

Wait for the US home video release which will be unaltered...

I've all but given up on local releases. After the John Wick 2 censorship deal, I have no faith whatsoever in local distributors leaving art alone. Even worse when you get slapped with releases based on censored UK pressings. Why, just why?

For a country that once prided itself on pushing the censorship envelope to the edge, kinda sad how far we've fallen.

Ah well, more money & power to the US, I say. Least more of my money. Be buggered if I'll shill out for censored films.

And to top it off Lady Bird has failed at the Australian box office, so it did them no good. Besides the films is for people 15 and older anyway, not the tween/family market.

Black Panther

So over-hyped. I was thoroughly bored for 95% of this movie. Hearing all of this talk about it being so different and tackling important issues had me excited for a refreshing Marvel film, but it failed at that for me.

Lackluster visuals, boring plot, underdeveloped characters.. and the villain, while being one of the better MCU baddies, wasn't worth writing home about. I also thought that Jordans performance was pretty flat.

The things I did like was the costume design and some of the fights, which were fun enough. Other than that I do not see the appeal of this film, nor do I see how it was so different from every other Marvel installation to date.

4/10
