Default The Official A24 Films Blu-Ray Release & Filmography Thread

Kinda been pondering this the last couple of days, but I ultimately decided to give in. I've noticed that there are a lot of people on here -- myself included -- that love the up-and-coming A24 Films, which has released a handful of tremendous movies since their initial release in 2013. Because of that, combined with the fact that they're not a "big-time" studio, I decided to start this thread to keep up with their upcoming BD releases from this point on.

The studio was formed in 2012 by marketing veterans Daniel Katz, David Fenkel and John Hodges. They made their official debut with Roman Coppola's A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, starring Charlie Sheen, Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman. They have since released a number of under-the-radar films that have been critically-acclaimed... and hopefully, there are more to come.

The studio's website: http://www.a24films.com

They acquire great films but their home video releases suck. They also have some of the best trailers and posters in the business. It's baffling (and unfortunate) that they dropped the ball on dvd/blu.

I know right. It's amazing to me how they don't seem to want to go the BD route even though it'd be a lot more profitable. Luckily, there's only been one movie so far (Ginger & Rosa) that hasn't been released on BD yet. The others have either gotten one or will get one, i.e. Under the Skin. I hope that they continue to release their films on BD because a good few of the upcoming releases look and seem very intriguing. We'll see what happens, I suppose.

Thanks for the reply.

I always expected Palo Alto would be an A24 title.

I like most of the movies they've released thus far.

I think we are only getting an Enemy blu because members of this forum blew up their twitter account and gave them some very negative PR.

Besides that; the home video releases either have no extras or very poor ones. They also don't use their fantastic posters for the cover artwork. Instead they come up with some pretty hideous covers.

Also; I get (but disagree) with why they added more clothing to the girls via photoshop on the Spring Breakers cover...but why did they also photoshop in a gun?

Per IMDB:

Quote:
"Cannes– A24 has acquired U.S. rights to Ewan McGregor starrer “Son of a Gun,” an Australian heist thriller directed by first-timer Julius Avery.

McGregor stars opposite Alicia Vikander (“A Royal Affair”) and Brenton Thwaites (“Maleficent”). UTA, which represents Avery, McGregor and Vikander, handled the U.S. sale to A24.

Altitude Film Sales is selling international rights and hosted a market screening for the film in Cannes. Timothy White at Southern Light Films produced the movie, which was backed by Screen Australia. Hopscotch Entertainment One will release the film in Australia and New Zealand.

Pic centers around the relationship between between Australia’s highest profile criminal and his young protege.

A former commercials director, Avery, is considered one of Australia’s most promising new helmers, along with David Michod. His 2008 short film “Jerrycan” won Cannes’ jury prize and best short at the AFI."

They've also picked up the rights to Atom Egoyan's Ryan Reynolds starring The Captive. Unfortunately, though unsurprisingly given his recent track record, the film is getting torn apart in the reviews following its premiere.

I honestly think Slow West (another A24 film) was completely snubbed for Best Original Score and Best Cinematography. Had absolutely brilliant of both.

I haven't seen it yet. I picked up the blu-ray today though, so I should get to it in the next few days. I've heard amazing things about it.

A24 is one of the best independent film companies right now. For the last couple of years, they have been releasing some great movies. I hope they keep up the good work. When people say there's no good movies being made these days, I would point them to this direction. This thread definitely needs an update!
My top 25 films:

1) Jackie Brown 2) Nashville 3)Apocalypse Now 4) Pulp Fiction 5) All About Eve 6) Blue Velvet 7) Zodiac 8) The Getaway (1972) 9) Almost Famous 10) Tenebre 11) Sorcerer 12) The Wolf of Wall Street 13) Mildred Pierce 14) The Towering Inferno 15) Talk to Her 16) Dressed to Kill 17) Rabid Dogs 18) City of God 19) The Dead Girl 20) Adaptation 21) Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind 22) Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 23) Happiness 24) Spirited Away 25) Harold and Maude
