I wonder if Universal intentionally sourced bad replacement music, so if they ever released an 'all original music' box set, most people would double dip. Obviously they would have to finance the original music box set with the money they made from the current release.

But if the current release had really good substitute music, then a lot of people wouldn't bother to upgrade.

Just a thought.

I never noticed a difference with Season 6. I know Seasons 2 & 3 (possibly the others, I haven't checked yet) don't look as good as Season 1. But that has nothing to do with the filming, it's just that they did a better job mastering S1.

Season one is an example of the best that DVD can look. Season 3 and on look like they slightly softened the image to help with compression as they often crammed 5 episodes per disc. Season 6 suffers from a interlacing, contrast boosting and an image even softer that other seasons.

Season one US release(looks great!)

Season six US release(Notice the Digital Magic logo which was added to the end credits which I presume is the new digital editing system they used for this season)

The only things that looks better is the text clarity on the credits.

It's been over 10 years since it was shown in HD on Universal HD but it's finally coming to blu-ray (with the original music intact):
