Default The Good Thief (2002)

The Neil Jordan film starring Nick Nolte is truly a lost neo-noir classic. It appears that a 1080i Blu-ray version was released in Mexico, but this seems borderline unobtainable, totally OOP. Since it's owned by Fox Searchlight I doubt it has a legitimate release coming anytime soon (if at all), so I guess I'll resume my quest for the Mexican release, titled Un Gran Ladron. Anyone have any info on this?

Wow, this is a real blast from the past. I saw The Good Thief theatrically, during a limited run in my area back in 2002. I agree it's an excellent little neo-noir, and is my second-favorite Neil Jordan film (my first is Mona Lisa).

Nick Nolte is amazing in this, and the storyline - involving a heist - is very tense & well-done.

The DVD was OK, but I agree it needs an upgrade to Region 1 Blu.

Funny, I also saw it theatrically, in a small theatre that occasionally showed limited movies. It's so stylish the way Jordan used freeze-frames, and how he utilized the Leonard Cohen song "A Thousand Kisses Deep" as a recurring motif throughout the film. You're right--Nolte is amazing in this; it's the role he was born to play. I'm pretty sure it has an HD master somewhere. I'm going to rate this as my favorite Jordan film, though Mona Lisa, Company of Wolves, Interview With the Vampire, and Crying Game are all in the running.
