I'm pretty forgiving of the flaws with these older, obscure films. With so much mistreatment and lost footage and negatives and whatnot, I can live with a pretty grimy and scratchy print if that's the best there is. If it comes down to not having it at all and having it with cigarette burns and audio pops, I'll take the latter any day.

I'll buy it at either price point, personally. I can see the gate weave, but personally I don't consider it a massive issue.

As an alternative, have you considered a Kickstarter campaign? That would give people the opportunity to directly contribute to repairing the issue, and if there are as many people who feel passionately about wanting it fixed as some have said. While I don't consider the issue huge, I'm a big enough film aficionado that I'd throw some money into that.

Someone in the thread compared it to the DVD and it's there too. They said it looked like footsteps from a hand held camera. If there was negative shrinkage, it would be throughout a whole reel and it would probably be worse at reel changes. It wouldn't just be in a shot here and there. I'm going to screen this over the weekend. I'll check for myself. I can tell the difference between bumps in a camera move and negative shrinkage.

What's wrong with the current Code Red BD? It's beautiful. Is the problem with the lack of special features? Do what everyone else did: Buy the BD and keep the Scorpion DVD. Can't find the BD for sale anywhere? Email Bill personally and he'll sell you one privately. Problem solved.

I pledge a purchase of the Deluxe Edition at $64.95 with wobble fixed.

Now he just needs another few thousand guarantees. From what I've read the wobble isnt noticible unless you already know about it and are looking for it. I for one would rather not shell out an extra $15 for the movie. $50 is already pushing it imo but I would be willing to spend the $50 and if it were $65 I probably would still get it.

Let's be realistic on the kickstarter thing: he says it would cost 20,000 dollars. How many people on this forum have posted that they care enough about the gateweave thing that they want it fixed and would pay more than 15 bucks for the privilege? 20? Are they all going to pay 1,000 dollars? Or even 100?

How many people OFF this forum even know about the issue? 5 people at Latarnia that don't post here?

If you can somehow make hundreds more people care about this issue and also want to pay a whole bunch of extra money to make the definitive release more definitive in a way they might not even notice, then great. I just think it would never happen. It's too bad, but people who would even notice this, let alone want to pledge hundreds of dollars to make it go away, sure aren't common. The time for a kickstarter would have been at the getgo. At this point anyone without an intimate understanding of this situation would view it as a big ripoff. It would look like something that was already going to come out was now being held hostage.

I do not care about the gate weave thing.

I've yet to even SEE it or have those who claim to see it adequately describe what it is that they are seeing... (some say it's a background flutter, others say it's actual camera movement). Whatever it allegedly is, it's been there through previous releases and has not affected my enjoyment of the film thus far over its history.

So, I will NOT pay an additional $15 for the deluxe if this "problem" affects the cost. I will just stick with the standard.

I keep asking in the Opera and I'm met with hostility saying that Walt confirmed it's there so it's not up for debate. Which is funny since all I have been trying to do is find scenes with it so I can compare to the dvd version...and show that it has always been there.

A - Code Red is a awful label.

B - Bill Olsen has issues.

C - Bill Olsen doesn't care about his product.

D - Bill doesn't ship to Canada, so problem not solved.

E - Scorpion/Walt Olsen is a superior label and person.

If Walt informs you that he's not able to wrestle it away from Bill, I hope you find one on Ebay so you can get it in Canada. It really is an impressive transfer of a very nice source, and if you're a fan you'll likely be amazed at how good it looks and sounds. I know I was. Best of luck.

It was available on Screenarchives for well over a year and they ship to Cananda. What prevented you from that?

Is Code Red a terrible label because of what you listed for B-C?

"Warts and all" HD presentations of Opera already exist. The appeal of the Scorpion release is it's a new scan from the negative, as in a premium release.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the OPERA disc. Anyone who claims it needs additional work are quite simply WRONG.

Granted, the audio at the very beginning was a bit shoddy - and we're talking about ten seconds at most - so if you're looking to fix something for the deluxe version that may serve as some kind of incentive, there you go. That said, I'm not bothered by it and am very content with the movie-only release (largely because I'm simply not that big a fan of the film).

VERY excited about this release. I've watched my old Anchor Bay DVD more times than I'd care to count. Writer/director Floyd Mutrux is a great artist. This film, AMERICAN HOT WAX, HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS and especially the stunning DUSTY & SWEETS McGEE are all fine movies. He also wrote BLOOD IN BLOOD OUT a.k.a. BOUND BY HONOR and the amazing AMERICAN ME. Can't wait for this Blu-Ray!

I posted my thoughts over in the Opera thread, Scorpions release is fantastic. I will be buying the Deluxe Edition as long as he keeps it around $50.

I really just want my Deluxe Editions of The Church & The Sect. I need my Soavi, I need it now!
