Dynamic metadata + DV processing = better tone mapping.

I doubtless have more, but thats all I can think of right now.
I took it as ...

[Show spoiler]She created memories based off her real experiences and slightly altered them. This made them realistic but weren't exact memories.

As for Joi, I think it was K coming to terms that it was a soulless pursuit and letting go that she wasn't real. More human than human was the Replicant tagline and by the end of the movie, he had a "real" death and purpose.

This is a problem with the LG OLEDs, there's no way to get really reasonable/accurate tonemapping without DV. Without active HDR the tonemapping is too aggressive and often too dim, making some discs completely unwatchable. However when turning Dynamic Contrast to Low the set instead does whatever it pleases from shot to shot, with some inconsistencies, and it's generally way too bright instead.

Through testing a bunch of HDR10 material to their DV counterparts I've found the best middle-ground to be Dynamic Contrast on Low, and then lower Contrast to -3 on my Oppo (you can also lower the OLED Light to maybe 75, but that option is not as good since it won't bring back any clipped highlights). I've also set brightness to 49 to counteract the fact that the active HDR sometimes decides to really boost the lower-end of dark scenes.

As said above, it's all in the tone mapping. The HDR10 version is being very broadly interpreted according to the fixed metadata that the TV is reading off the disc, whereas the DV version is dynamically adjusting the content scene by scene, frame by frame if necessary, to the main characteristics of your TV so it knows exactly what to clip/map and where.

To all 2017 LG OLED owners having issues with dimness: I highly recommend the Sony disc. In terms of brightness, it's a night and day difference over the U.S. release.

You could get the digital lossless (44.1/16) from Qobuz, 7digital or onkyomusic. I have no idea about region ristrictions tho.
What's the source for the MP3 version, and do you know the bitrate? If it's at least 256 I can live with that. Thanks.

I got my Whisky edition, but the disc is damaged. There is a crack in the middle ring. I am now waiting for a replacement.

Good bit of info....Even tho the movie bombed, they want to expand the BR universe...

Alcon Entertainment:

“We look forward to Alcon’s third decade of supporting artists in the creation of content not only for the theatrical marketplace, but also for the linear, and the quickly emerging digital platforms,” they said. “We fully expect our company to thrive with our upcoming IP, including the expansion of the*Blade Runner*universe, a new, fully-animated*Garfield*feature, and other exciting projects. By becoming nimbler, and continuing to work with great creative partners, Alcon will be well positioned for its next phase of growth.

“Although this new direction requires us to modestly decrease the size of our work force here at Alcon, the few layoffs effected by this streamlined business model are not central to our reorganization plans. Still, to those leaving our family, we will be forever grateful for their creative energies and effort.”

That, ordering from overseas, the UK Sony version, or adjusting the video parameters to viewing preference from the WB/Sony version here in North America.

I'm a little surprised there was zero reaction to my posting of a link to photos of the whiskey glass edition. Was nobody here interested in those?

Honestly you can buy cool whiskey glasses all over the place. I buy them all the time. I don't need fancy whiskey glasses just because they say 'Blade Runner' on them. I'd be inclined to not use them.

The whiskey glasses seem to be a cool novelty to people who don't actually use whiskey glasses. As any one of them can tell you that the frosted lettering rubs off half the time in the dishwasher.

Sure, they're cool. They should also cost $10 apiece max.

I assumed he was referring to the MP3s sent to people who ordered the CDs through Epic's site.

Well, the whiskey glass edition cost me £11 more than what the regular UHD would've cost so I'm very happy with that. I've got some Gentleman Jack right next to me here, I might just have to rinse out the glasses and give them a test drive. Mmmm....mighty smooth.

That's not at all the point with these. The point with these is that they bear a fairly accurate resemblance to the Cibi glasses featured in both films... which sell for $150 a pair. Also, I'd venture a guess that many here who are buying the whiskey glasses set will be removing the branding from them if possible (which seems like will be the case from the discussion over here.) I certainly will be.

Ah, got it. That makes sense, thanks.

I went ahead and just grabbed the flac 44.1/16 version from 7Digital. Now I won't have to try playing the movie for ambience anymore while I work, cause then I get too easily distracted by the movie itself.
