It's one of his more underrated ones for sure. The action sequences are a bit sparse compared to, well, pretty much everything other than Pain & Gain and Pearl Harbour, but it's worth it for the freeway chase alone Otherwise it's basically a turbo-charged tribute to dystopian 70s sci-fi flicks like Logan's Run and THX 1138.

I hate to say it but ill probabably get to a stage where i get all of his films (even pearl harbor & transformers) however with bad movies and bad discs i usually get them secondhand as i dont feel like the moneys worth going to those people

I've still avoided Pearl Harbor, the most I'm willing to pay for it is maybe $5 if it's brand new, half that if it's used. It would be a decent movie if you removed about three-quarters of what happens before the actual attack

Ordered:

First-time watch last night:

This was great, I always enjoy these biographical dramas. Of course you expect it to be embellished and not completely faithful to the real world events. And after reading some more about the film, I found a quote by the director Doug Liman who described it as "a fun lie based on a true story" hahaha.

The UHD was great, it has this nice filter (see screenshot) that I think fits the story well considering the time period and the AQ was also really solid.

All in all this was great fun and I'd have to give it 5/5. Tom Cruise was terrific as per usual.

I watched it on foxtel recently and i hate certain aspects about it and love other aspects of it. The sub use and aq was great(even with foxtels compression) so ill likely get it for that reason as i really enjoyed the sound design of it more than the actual movie

That pretty much goes for every Bay movie.. which makes that Warners hack-job of The Island even more of a travesty

The thing that hurts it the most is the story has already been done better twice. Pearl harbor tried to combine the action from tora tora tora and the romance from here to eternity and failed because michael bay was the wrong director and the editor didnt know what they were doing

Just looking on their website, they got some cheap UHDs there (and some hideously expensive ones)

Yep they finally updated their online store a little. Was just about to order a couple, but I think i'll try and get them to order in store to save the shipping fee. Their price for 'IT' is ridiculous at the moment, highest in the country. Dunkirk was the same too.

Michael Bay is a god. Found out I could switch Dolby Vision picture modes.. I was on 'Cinema' for the first Transformers film, and switched it to 'Standard' for this one.. so much better. No yellowish teal added to the picture.

Wow. After a month of streaming stuff in SD it was truly glorious to sit down and watch a couple of 5 star PQ Blu-rays. An instant reminder of why I started collecting 'em in the first place. Great stuff.

oh, and I really liked both movies as well. Glad I got the UK release for Hacksaw Ridge, as it appears to be the best one available. Well worth the wait... hopefully now Mel Gibson will start directing more movies again.

I couldve grabbed the 4k one but i just grabbed the local one coz it was cheap and i dont have an atmos setup so it wont make a massive difference for me. Im more annoyed about the lack of bonus features

that's why the UK one is probably best. (out of the standard Blus, no idea about 4K.) It almost entirely nixes the banding from the US release, gets the same extras and an additional featurette, plus it gets the Atmos and 7.1 tracks. It's even dropped in price a whole lot. Definitely the way to go
