Yeah, sharpness is really where the UHD differentiates itself from the BD. I will say, of all the UHDs I own, this is probably the most subtle upgrade, but itís definitely still worth it to me. I canít stand that 1080p blurriness anymore.

This 4k disc is a one of the best examples why 4k SDR source played back on a 1080p display delivers sharper picture than playing back a 1080p SDR source. Technically, the luma channels are downscaled from 2160p to 1080p, but the chroma channels are not. The result is wonderful 1080p 4:4:4 image.

Nice. Red in particular can suffer quite a bit in this kind of 4:2:0 encoding format so yeah, every little bit helps. Spatial resolution is better on the 2160p-to-1080p downscale than the 1080p native presentation anyway, look at the treads on the tyres or the shop signs at the back.

Basically 1080p on disc is not usually a wholly unfettered representation of the source as the anti-upscale crowd believe it to be, there's usually scaling and/or filtering and VERY low chroma resolution in general. So when we get an upcaled 4K UHD version of a 2K source (not that Brawl is, I'm just making a wider point) we're getting 4x the chroma resolution plus we're avoiding that damaging 1080p scaling and filtering.

UHD is itself downscaled from the proper 4K rez masters so the same things apply to genuine 4K-mastered content, i.e. we may not see them at their proper resolution until they get upscaled to 8K ( ), but it's still comparatively better than the BD version as Brawl's UHD confirms.

Blind bought this and Mayhem from Target last week with a gift card and watched them both over the weekend. I loved both of them. I watched them on blu-ray since I'm still not set up for 4k, but I adored both films.

I just watched this - really enjoyed it. Perfect fare if you want some OTT violence (and you know, sometimes, you just do).

Definitely an uptick over the BD - really sharp. What's interesting is, despite both discs being rec 709, there was maybe a very subtle improvement in contrast and saturation on the UHD BD.

This has been out of stock at Amazon since release day. They only had it in stock on January 20. But then I placed an order and a part of my order was sent... but they left Brawl in Cell Block 99 out. I contacted them and asked why that happened if the product was already available. Their answer was that there was a tech issue with the inventory and the problem would be resolved in a day or two.

I hope my copy arrives with a slipcover.
did it come with a slip?

That's neat! Would it look just as sharp or perhaps even sharper if the 4K disc is played on a 4K TV? Or would it take an 8K disc on a 4K TV to have this effect?

I canít judge the Amazon streaming version but I highly suggest you go with the 4K physical disc instead. I doubt itíll look as impactful as this disc.

I watched it on Amazon first, before buying the UHD. Wayyy better. Definitely worth a buy if you like the movie enough to own it. Definitely keep it on your list.

I've only seen it on Amazon and wasn't blown away by the picture myself. Waiting to find a cheap physical disc and then I'll give it another try.

Going in to this blind was one of my favorite movie experiences of the last few years. Ordered Bone Tomahawk within a hour of the credits rolling.
