Default Dad FINALLY Purchasing New TV!!!

I recently went to his house and saw his OLD rear projection LCD TV with only componant connections and TONS of little kid hand prints (not mine BTW).

Either way, I took him to my place to show him what he is missing out on, and I had to just about fight him so he didn't take my Mits WD-60735...

He, of course, is stuck on plasmas and lcd's because 'it must be better because everyone is buying them'. I am just about done convincing him that a DLP is the best purchase for him. For one, he has the room. He has an entertainment center with deep shelves that will house any DLP. Not to mention the price, you get MUCH better bang for your buck if you go with a DLP.

He is able to fit anything up to 70"
Price isn't too big of an issue, although he would prolly want to stay below $2,000USD.

Please help me in finding him a TV before one of his work buddies convince him to pay for an over priced LCD TV from Best Buy.

He also has no problem buying from the internet... although seeing it in person would help a bit.

Thank You In Advance, Peter!

Why would you say LCD is overpriced?

Anyways..... I'd just let him buy whatever he wants......

dlp's are good tv's if you go with DLP make sure you get one that is powered with LEDS rather than the old color wheels etc. Samsung make great DLP's that are powered by LEDS.

pros about LEDS is that there are no bulbs to replace, no color wheels to go bad. LEDS are rated at 60,000hrs the same as LCD LEDS

http://www.dlp.com/hdtv/led_hdtvs.aspx

now the only bad things with DLP sets are the same as they always have been? viewing angles are not as good as plasma or lcd, contrast ratio's and black levels are not as good as plasma or lcd. Those are the two reasons i decided to stay away from DLP. From a $ to size ratio though they cannot be beaten!

Purhaps overpriced isnt the correct word, but as brett day stated, they are the best price to size ratio out there. Either way, for what he needs, I still feel that DLP is the way to go... There is no reason to have all that waisted space behind there when he can get a 65" DLP for the same price as a 46" LCD.

As far as viewing angles go, it's a pretty big living room with all couches and chairs practicly right in front of the entertainment center... so viewing angles wont be a problem either.

For 2K, yeah, just get a nice mid-range 46-52" Sammy/Sony LCD or maybe even a big Panasonic plasma.

okay... well let's go a different rout... what is a good DLP from 60 - 70" not spending more than $2k USD?

Oh and BTW... he is also needing a PS3... so if you come accross a combo type deal, then that would be great!

Thank you all for your replies... Thank You, Peter!

If you want DLP, Mitsubishi is the only game left in town. Samsung no longer manufactures them. With regards to price to size ratio DLP is still the king. 73" Mits can be had for under $2000
