All's that i know when I called they ask me for the last 3 characters after the CECH. I told them my 3 numbers were H01. They were able to tell by that. and now i can get them to return the system as all PS3's are final sale. So now I have to send my refurbished system back to playstation for them to fix it. This is not working out to be such a great deal.

but if you were buying a "new" PS3, but got a refurbed one, you are not RETURNING the PS3, but you are "going to get a new PS3, or sue their asses off".

alright that sucks, mine is also CECH01, im gonna try it tonight still its still in the box as of now, was it not working right out of the box ??

PS3 related, firmware version 3.00 is out.

It was working for about 5 mins, then it crashed. Good luck to all that got one.

They won't be able to tell whether or not your unit is new from the model number.

CECHH01 means: 40GB model, released October 2007, region code 01.

All 40GB PS3's that match that description will have that same model number and thus it isn't a unique identifier.

Your system may be a refurb, but the rep was either blowing smoke up your ass with that story (knew something you didn't) or simply didn't know what they were talking about.
The serial number on the back is what they would use to tell you any info specifically about that system.
