From Panasonic's website:

Quote:
For fast-motion sports, you want a television that won't blur or stutter, and for that the most important factor is a high pixel refresh rate. Plasma TVs that use "progressive scan" technology are more suited to fast action than those that scan their images in an "interlaced" format. As far as LCDs, new 120Hz LCD TVs with image interpolation are able to simulate in-between frames, improving their ability to render the fast motion of a sports game.
Quote:
Crisp, realistic color is always important, but especially when it comes to watching movies. One of the biggest factors in a TV's ability to render beautiful color is its resolution: TVs with a higher resolution (ie, 1080) reproduce more pixels per inch than those with a lower resolution (ie, 720 or 480). Also important is a TV's ability to display rich, deep blacks. Traditional CRTs have great black-level performance, but that's generally overshadowed by their other shortcomings. If you want a flat-panel display, plasma TVs tend to render "true black" better than LCDs.
No mention of interpolation in the "Are some TVs better for watching movies?" section.

Quote:
Historically, 1080p1 plasmas have been better for watching fast-motion graphics, since they combine extremely high resolution with progressive-scan technology. And while plasma TVs still represent the gold standard in motion graphics, new technological advances are allowing some LCDs portray movement just as smoothly. New Panasonic LCDs have a feature called Motion Picture Pro, which combines 120Hz technology and image interpolation to simulate in-between frames so that even high-speed action in movies and sports is rendered with striking fluidity and realism.
Interpolation is no longer a new technology so finding specific articles relating to the purpose for it's creation is difficult. If I'm able to find anything I'll post it here.

I know that interpolation isn't only used for 24p, I was just relating back to the prior posts which referred specifically to that for of playback. I have a Kuro elite with the smooth motion filter which I sometimes apply to sports on cable, otherwise it stays off.

I appreciate the effort but I don't interpret those comments to = "LCD manufacturers created interpolation in an attempt to address a deficiency native to their display technology. "

Especially so considering Plasma's (your Kuro for example), DLP's, LCos use the same technology. I guess we'll agree to disagree. I see it as a response to improving the quality of the source fed to the display (24fps movies seeing a bigger improvement than 60fps tv from my experience) not the display.. Judder happens on CRT's (as it does on Plasma's and every other type of display) and the response time is king.. In short I see it as a way to make things smoother, which is exactly what does

I think thats what the OP was referring to and not the 120hertz-shmertz...but I could be wrong.

All of these HD TV'S have pro's and con's but the bottom line is what looks good to you and what can you afford. The technology of plasma's and LCD's and LED's etc. are different but you will not notice the 120hz or 240hz on anything other than an LCD OR LED. Pioneer Kuro's are great but not the best because my son has one that cost him 5,000.00 dollars and he has had more problems than he should have for the money he paid for it.
Did anyone even suggest Kuros to the OP?!?!

I've heard this, but cannot find it listed on the Viera website.

You can see it in the owner's manual downloadable from Panasonic's website.
My friend in Buffalo has one, so I was surprised when it first came out too that it had it as it was never listed as a feature.

Seems like it was added last minute.

I say go for that Samsung since you are already a fan of Samsung and you like the auto motion plus feature. From my experience, I hardly notice the motion enhancement on my LCD. I guess it's because I've owned the TV for 2 years now and am used to it. I've had my plasma for a few months now, and the colors still impress me. The motion is smooth and natural, almost like having the interpolation setting on low.
