Default Last Year at Marienbad - Blind buy or not?

This film intrigues me, but I haven't found much discussion about it and let's face it, I didn't scroll through all pages of this thread to find out.

Is "Last Year at Marienbad" worth a blind buy? I like to buy films that lend themselves to repeat viewings and not just sit on the shelf so much.

Thanks!
Kevin

I picked up:
Howards End
Wings of Desire
Monsoon Wedding
Playtime
All on Blu

I stopped at Best Buy beforehand and saw they had Gomorrah on the shelf. But it was priced $34 or something. I thought maybe B&N would have it out early. But no

there's a 20% off online coupon floating around here somewhere. I think it's posted in the "Barnes and Noble 50% Off" thread. Used it to get Wings of Desire since all my local stores are out.

Made a few more purchases....mainly for the OOP stuff like "Contempt" and "Ran". Also, ordered Jules et Jim, Earrings of Madame De.., Trafic and Antonio Gaudi. I've spent to much now...but part of me wants to get Godard's Masculin Feminin, 2 or 3 Things and Made in U.S.A., but so far resisting as best as I can.

The Last Year at Marienbad received very good reviews, so I don't think you can go wrong with it. Definitely, a lot of titles on Blu-ray that will test your openness to certain genres. I didn't pick up Howard's End yet nor Repulsion. Monterey Pop Festival....at first I was going to get it but I'm not as passionate for 60's music as others. Not sure about "The Last Emperor"...I have it in my cart, take it out and repeat....there's just too many titles I want from this sale.

Absolutely, and with the ridiculous discount (50% +20% coupon) is impossible to pass up. I think that this along with the Cassavetes box set is one of the crowning pieces of the collection, but thats just me. Anyway, I highly recommend.

Very good choice!

I picked that one up, also. Seeing that Lola Montes was coming to blu-ray made me want to pick up what I consider to be Ophuls best.

My Best Buy had Gomorrah out early, and they had no problem price-matching the B&N Criterion 50% off sale. Better yet, they took the 50% off the Best Buy sticker price instead of the MSRP, so I got the BD for a measly $17.99 + tax. Very happy with that.
