There are several brands that have standalone Bluray players that do play MKV:

Oppo
Pioneer
JVC
LG
Samsung

I think that Sony now has a model that also plays mkv. It won't be long before ALL players can play such files.

Hi!

I've just bought a LG BD360, with official support for mkv and a lot of other hd formats.

But, the truth is that it doesn't work!

It plays only a few films, and the strangeness is that trying with some mkvs with identical audio and video formats, it plays only several of them.

So, I returned it to the seller.

We've been trying with an other BD360, same issue.

It's really bad, because this is a good player should support any audio/video format, has a powered usb connection that manages 2.5" hdds and has network capabilities.

All for only about 100$...

Has anybody found a good bluray/mkv player with usb disk support?

Bye!

My Sony S370 seems to play MKV files.

I don't have much experience with MKV files but if I want my Sony S370 to play a avi or mov file I just change the extention to MKV and preto.... it plays.

Default LG works fine

I have an LG BX580 3D BR Player hooked up to an LG 55LX6500 LED in my living room and a LG BD390 BR Player ran through a Pioneer Elite receiver to my HD projector in my theatre (110" Screen) and I play MKV files all the the time & MP3's

I rip my Blu-Rays to an external 2 TB HD formated to NTFS and these are big files (10-25 GB each). Then all I do is plug the external HD in the front USB ports of the LG Players (or direct into my LED) and BAM! Instant movie database and music library.

Each of my 3 LG connections have slightly different UI's but they all do the Job.

1) My LED will automatically show album artwork for each MP3 since most of the files have been run through Itunes and show movie clip pictures and file names for movies which is really cool.

2&3) The 580 & 390 doesnt show album art or movie pics at the this time but the 580 does have an "info" for music and via Wi-Fi will but up album art and tracklisting
