I just placed one order, scheduled to ship on the 27th....... unfortunate thing is..... I didn't buy The Red Shoes (and I thought I placed it in my cart) I have all the other releases I want...... now I have to make another order, but I will probably wait closer to release date to do it, and hope Amazon eventually lowers their prices.....

I'm almost done with my DVD box-set order..... War Trilogy and Early Bergman are musts..... and I think I'll get Cassavette's set while I'm at it..... and for $8 or whatever it is, I need to pick up "The Red Balloon" since mine has a scratch on it, and freezes up for a few seconds in the middle......

I would add The Red Shoes to that order, but like last time, it'll just hold my entire order back

So because of the latino influence on the english language, I always mentally pronounce Yojimbo as "yo-him-bo"... it's actually Yo-Gym-bo, right?

I suggest importing the region-free UK blu-ray, Beta. It has "White Mane," as well, some extras in PAL, and is a much better presentation than Criterion.

I think they're all posted in the "Criterion 50% off" thread in the Deals section. If not, all of the B&N coupons are regulary updated over in the DVDTalk "Deals & Bargains" forums.

This site is pretty up to date with B&N and Borders coupons.

I am not sure but I had sent mine back to Criterion (movie in the original case) and they mailed back the movie but the case was not sealed in plastic, not sure if it was the original case or a new one. The SKU on the case I got back is 1551505801. Hope this helps.

Same here. I had it in my cart but both RS and TBN would hold my order. Actually, most of the Blu-rays now are 1-2 weeks instead of 24 hours, so I didn't order any Blu's. It made my decision easier to go for the box sets I wanted. I received my Monday order yesterday, so that was pretty cool.

I did look at last year's sale and compared prices and things were much more cheaper because we had a 20% off coupon that really brought things down. "Berlin Alexanderplatz" was $45 in November with membership and a coupon and this time with membership (online which does nothing), AAA and no coupon, it came up to $56-$57.

Even the most expensive Eclipse Series were at $28-$29, this time around its about $33-$34.

But again, still cheaper than original prices and one can't complain but I admit that if I am upset at one thing, it's towards Barnes & Noble for not letting members use their online coupons. It's one thing to stop non-members from using coupons but to prevent members from using the coupons, that is just messed up.

I would put "Alien" in my top 50 sci-fi or horror list or possibly my top 50 films in the '80s but not for "Greatest of All Time" but best lists are always subjective. Because if I had an entry card for a Ridley Scott film to submit for consideration of best film of that director and I had only three films to enter and submit, I would select "Blade Runner", "Gladiator" and "Thelma & Louise" over "Alien" but that's me.

We apologize, but due to an unexpected delay, we are unable to ship the item(s) listed below in the time frame we stated in our previous email. We anticipate that your item(s) will be shipped within the next 1-5 business days. (Please note: business days are Monday through Friday, excluding holidays observed by the Post Office.) As always, you will not be charged until this item(s) ships from our warehouse.

"Unexpected delay"... Yeah right.
FWIW I received this same e-mail on all three of the titles I ordered during the sale. Within a couple of days of receiving this e-mail all of my items shipped. Ended up not being much of a delay for me.

Q : considering the Thin Red Line, Criterion lists in extras :

- Outtakes from the film

do you think these are the deleted scenes ? what is the difference between deleted scenes and outtakes ? because in TRL deleted scenes are ... almost legendary.

Thanks for any input.

If you have a problem with Walkabout, I'd just email Criterion directly.
When Criterion gets serious enough about replacement discs to repackage -- they may in this case at some point, probably when the initial printing sells out -- the package itself will get marked with "Second Printing" in place of where it says "First Printing". Everything else typically stays the same, including the SKU.

There are a few DVD titles currently in their second printing for which there are still first printing copies all over the place.

And I agree about Warner - unlikely to release more outside of Dial M and Strangers.

Criterion will no doubt release Foreign Correspondent on Blu when they get around to it, and The Lady Vanishes and The 39 Steps seem likely, eventually, especially since TLV was already re-released on DVD.
I'd love to see Criterion get the rights to some of the earlier films like the original 'The Man who knew too much' or 'Secret Agent'. Those older films gain so much from Bluray. Also wouldn't mind a decent version of Jamaica Inn. They should atleast release The Lady Vanishes on BluRay.

More then anything I want a Criterion Bluray version of Shadow of a Doubt, Notorious and Rebecca.

I lucked out on the B&N Sale. The night before it offically was to start I placed a order for 11 Criterions and recieved them a few days later. I still have 3 other orders I've placed since that haven't shipped yet. I need to block myself from accessing their site.

Most ppl have different recommendations of which Criterions to pick up, because tastes really differ. For me, I'd recommend the ones I own:

The Leopard
Che
Summer Hours
Everlasting Moments
For All Mankind
The Third Man (won't be able to find it--OOP)
Last Year at Marienbad
400 Blows
Days of Heaven
Revanche
8 1/2
Playtime

I personally didn't care for Howard's End or Wings of Desire. The others I either need to revisit or haven't seen.

Of the ones I own, there are only a few I'd even come close to recommending as a blind buy. They are: 400 Blows (arguably the greatest film about childhood), Playtime (great replay value), Revanche (strong themes but easy to follow), For All Mankind (not sure how you could dislike this), Everlasting Moments (shot beautifully and touching story), Days of Heaven (has been called the most beautiful film ever made--scenery alone makes it worthwhile).

The reason I wouldn't recommend a blind buy on the others I own is that I don't think they're films that would guarantee you'd like them. 8 1/2 is an incredible film, but the dreams throw ppl off. Last Year at Marienbad is a maddening film with no defintive explanation. The Third Man you won't find. Summer Hours is a simple film and the themes struck me, but they didn't for other ppl.

Others will def recommend different films to you, but you know your own taste. See what the movie is about and if it seems like it's down your alley. If so, go for it. You'll be rewarded more often than not. Good luck!

Yeah, Lou is, obviously, a great sport to even agree to do something like that. It's definitely humorous, but something was still just "not right" with it as a whole, ya know?

Personally, I don't care much for The Seventh Seal. It's extremely iconic and there are some great scenes in it, so I don't NOT recommend it, I just don't like it enough to actually recommend it or buy it myself. I know I'm in the minority with this one though, so don't doubt your purchase. You'll probably end up liking it. The question is HOW MUCH you'll end up liking it.
