The movie has 2.0 tracks in English, German, and two commentary tracks. Orlando Eastwood states, "The release I have, from Best Entertainment, is all upscaled from SD and it's 1080/50i. The German dub sounds new and has a new techno-ish score, however one scene in the German is missing so it goes over to English with German subs. The subs are removable but are automatically on even if you have the film set to English. So, mid way during the film, German subs will pop up for that one scene. Now, onto Fright Night aka Dementia 13, the film is upscaled to 1080/50i and only has German dubbing on the disc. Even Dementia 13 is 4:3 non-anamorphic widescreen transfer that has the black bars on the top and bottom and then upscaled so it has bars on all sides. Also, Dementia 13 only has German dubbing. No English audio is present for the film. It's horrible quality." Night of the Living Dead Blu-ray Splendid Film -Germany. Region B. Unknown Quality. I don't think he has any real control over that to this day. When they did the Elite transfer back in the day they copyrighted that to him and Elite but maybe he needs Elite's permission to use that as well. The whole thing with Night is weird, it may in fact be owned by the Wiensteins at this point and that would be tricky because of their legal issues. However we may get lucky and get a Vivendi release since it seems they are handling the Wiensteins catalog. Who knows?

The 30th Anniversary release of Night of the Living Dead on dvd is not the original release but the original release with new scenes and a new soundtrack. There is the original release included on the DVD but the soundtrack is new. Most Night of the Living Dead fans consider the 30th Anniversary release to be blasphemy. I have the 30th Anniversary on DVD in limited and regular release and for what it was, it is enjoyable, but not true to the original Romero film from 1968. Some Reviews review: http://www.mediacircus.net/notld.html http://www.thedigitalbits.com/review...ivingdead.html "The disc quality is really good, although when the new scenes are inserted you can tell - how could you not? Another pox on this film is the re-scoring by Scott Vladimir Licina, which is so bad that I'm going to just ignore it. There are two versions of this film included on the DVD, the 30th Anniversary re-edit and the original cut with Licina's new score (which, again, sucks so bad that I'm not even gonna talk about it). I can't believe anyone could make this film suck, but congratulations Mr. Russo - you did it in spades. Russo is credited as the "writer/director" of the new scenes in this version. May zombies eat his liver." Surely at some point, someone will release the 30th Anniversary release on Blu-Ray as well. |

Exactly...which is why I still have it. Not everything is superior on bluray...yet....but I hope one day this version gets the bluray treatment.

Again, the more recent one from Weinstein (which I pictured) is also approved by Romero... and includes slightly better PQ, although some of the Millennium extras didn't make it over. I have both of those on DVD and that'll keep me satisfied until we get an "official" BD release.

Great Question. I am unsure of a blu-ray answer, but Elite Entertainment's Millennium Edition DVD is supposed to be the best DVD.

I went with the Happinet release from Japan, and I'm more than happy with it. I narrowed it down to region A compatible releases and from there, due to a lack of info available about the Aussie release, I narrowed it down to the Forgotten Films release in the US and the Japanese one that I ended up getting. Between those 2 the US release is missing footage and is essentially a bare-bones release while the Japanese one contains the complete film and some nice extras, so the choice was obvious. The transfer is also amazing. The only flaw is a couple of very brief vertical lines in one scene. They couldn't be visible for more than a few seconds, and I didn't even see them the first time. Overall I think it's the one.
