Should I return this for the movie I had originally intended to get, or should I just keep it and get the other one as well?

Ooooor should I throw out all my blurays and get me some hddvds?

Ties in nicely with the zombie theme of this thread. Well, not really. HD DVD was never reanimated.
Now the real pain begins, Danny-boy.

The US release is slightly sharper, the arrow version is also slightly stretched. Very slightly. Very close, but the US one is the superior one.

I own both, I'm a sucker for the packaging.

I agree that the Anchor Bay version has a slight edge when it comes to the picture quality, however the Arrow version has much better extras and packaging.

I wouldn't say that. The Blu of Dawn of the Dead has some major smearage going on (which I assume is due to DNR), and the Blu of Day is a bit on the dull side. But right now they're the best thing out there for these movies, and they look much better than the DVDs so it's acceptable to me.

This gif takes one of the caps-a-holic screens and an old dvd screenshot.

Compared to the DVD it's the Anchor Bay that's squished.
The Caps-a-holic blu/dvd comparrison supports this, too...

Edit: The Anchor Bay picture is slightly better, though. The opposite for the Dawn of the Dead releases imo.

The 5.1 audio tracks on the Anchor Bay BD is has also censored some cursing, but the Mono track is untouched. The 5.1 track and Mono on the Arrow BD is uncensored

I got the Arrow release for the awesome packaging and exclusive extras, now I'm convinced I need the Anchor Bay release for the better PQ!

The OAR is 1.85 for this film. The Anchor Blu-ray is the correct one. The Arrow is 1.78, it stretches the 1.85 picture to fill the full frame.

Ah, you're right. I never noticed that the Arrow disc wasn't 1.85:1
I just checked the DVD that shot in the gif came from. I forgot it, too, was an arrow release. Guess it was stretched for DVD, too.
I guess that makes Arrows Dawn of the Dead the wrong Aspect ratio, too. Although with that one the picture is opened up a bit rather than stretched.

Yes, the US has less DNR and better colours, but it also have the dialogue overdubbed by different actors and brief alterations to language. The UK version has much more extra features if you enjoy that.

http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...less=1#auswahl

Here it is:

*0:09:15 - "It's crazy" provided by a different voice
*0:09:35 - "Shit" to "Right"
*0:58:48 - Gunshot is partially missing
*1:01:33 - "It's the Spic" provided by a different voice
*1:11:20 - "Oh, Jesus" to "I can't look"
*1:20:30 - "Jesus" to "Stuck"
