Talking My First Time With 'The X-Files' NO SPOILERS

I remember seeing random episodes of the X-Files off and on through the better part of my childhood. It premiered when I was 7 or 8 so I wasn't exactly the key demographic. But I watched later episodes as I got older but never on a steady basis. Don't think I ever even knew what night of the week it was on back than. However I recently found out my buddy has the entire series on disc, so I am planning on watching them as I have the time. I was only able to watch the pilot today, which I never saw before but thought it was pretty good. Anyways, I'm hoping to be able to watch the rest of the first disc tomorrow. I have a lot more time this week with so many shows being on hiatus at the moment. Being as I've never seen the major story lines or even how the shows ends, PLEASE DO NOT POST SPOILERS.

Awesome show for the first 6 seasons, then it gets kind of diluted.

Was it season 6 or 7 when Mulder left? I don't even know what happened with his character I just know he was there, than I didn't watch for awhile and Robert Patrick was. But I'll eventually find out, that's just A LOT of episodes to watch to get to that point, haha I have over 200 to watch in this series plus the two movies. Wonder how long it'll take me. Maybe I'll be done by spring.

I'm thinking 7. I know he was gone for most of 8.

There were good episodes in 6-9, but the show just felt convoluted (even for this show) and kinda slow paced.

After just finishing Twin Peaks this week, nothing will ever be as convoluted for me again lol, I think I will be able to handle this level after that nonsense.

Never seen that. But I put the first disc of Carnivale on my netflix dvd queue. Heard good things about it and with thew way HBO releases seasons of older shows it'll be 2020 before it comes out.

X-Files will NEVER get a blu release.

The X-files is my favorite show of all time. I was also pretty young when it first came out so I never saw it when it was airing but watched the whole series 2 summers ago before the 2nd movie came out. I don't think you will be disappointed one of the best series of all time in my book.

I do agree I did loose interest once Mulder left but still stuck with the show as it did have some good non Mulder episodes.

I used to like it, but stopped watching when it got all convoluted. I was going to rewatch the whole series on Netflix streaming, but I couldn't even get through season 2, it was way too MOW and they were pretty lame most of the time too. I know I should be enjoying it while it's all simple, but it was just painful. I'll try again eventually though.

WyldeMan, you just wanted more Duchovny after seeing him in a dress, haha

Speaking of Duchovny, I just watched Californication season 3, love that show.

I LOVED Carnivale when it originally aired. I have actually been watching it off and on again the past few weeks. That is one show that ended way too early. It's a very strange and fun ride though. Well considering HBO just put out Deadwood on blu, Carnivale could very well be next. Though I'd prefer the Wire was.

Oh come on, no way the second season of X-Files could be as bad as season 2 of Twin Peaks, lol. And you know Duchovny was way too sexy as a woman. I love how everybody was surprised when he revealed he was in fact a he, the lady had a square jaw and an adam's apple, haha.

i might be in the minority here, but i felt for as great as the show was, it was always extremely aggravating. made even worse in the last few seasons.

my biggest issue is that you'll come across episodes that are heavy in the show's mythology (a la the pilot episode) but then you'll have a bunch of stand alone episodes that have little to nothing to do with the main story line (a la the terrible "Ghost in the Machine"). now, sure there are some great, fun, exciting non-mythology episodes, but sometimes the series would end an episode on a big cliffhanger and the next episode not even acknowledge it that drove me nuts. and i watched / own all 9 seasons on dvd so i could only imagine how frustrated i would've been had i watched this on FOX when it originally aired.

of course non-mythology shows still show the great relationship of Mulder and Scully, one of the best in all of television history imo, but when each season is around 22+ episodes and there are only 8-9 mythology based episodes (usually the first 2 of the season, 2-4 in the middle, 2-3 at the end of the season) per season, i feel like the show really missed out on how great it could have been.

but again, i'm sure i'm in the minority with my feelings.

enjoy the show! a lot of great characters, scenes and moments

Interesting, I thought the show was very heavy about the mythology. I really only remember the episodes I did watch focused heavily on Mulder investigating the abduction of his sister, so that might be why I was under that impression. I'll definitely have more thoughts to share over the coming weeks though.

Squeeze and Tooms are my favorite episodes of the first season. They are both great episodes. You will have to let me know if you enjoy them as much as I do.
If I go missing for a time, fear not, I am traveling with The Doctor. The 11th Doctor, Matt Smith.

This is a FANTASTIC show. I loved it... its a shame that it didn't get to have the planned six season run

I probably watched the first 5 seasons, but then went to college, and didn't watch at that point. It was certainly the first show that made me really not want to miss an episode because one episode built off another sometimes, or the character's "Quirks" were referenced in later episodes etc....

The fact that I was in High-School basically when it started (or getting ready to go into H.S. at the time) I didn't really have anything to do at 9 PM, or whatever time it was on, because I always had school the next day.... and I think it was on Sundays' if I'm not mistaken...... heck, I think it came on about the time the Tracy Ullman show ended on the same network if I'm not mistaken (FOX) which I had watched at night as a kid......

Either way..... ramblings aside.... it really is good, but I have a hard time admitting that to people because of the huge dork-following it had at the time

i don't want to what i said to dissuade you into watching the show or anything, it's quite the opposite. for me, the main story lines were SO GOOD that when the show "took a break" from time to time for the 'monster of the week' type story (where the episode didn't connect to the overall mythology or what was happening) it was extremely aggravating because i wanted to see what was going to come next

of course since you know somewhat with Mulder what happens in later seasons, most people dislike the last 3 seasons, but i actually did enjoy 8 and 9 for the most part. season 7 though i found to be lacking in almost every area (although a great season premiere if i recall), but everyone is different and you may enjoy it

My mom used to be an X-File junkie. I have memories of going through the series back when the DVDs cost 100-150 each!

Fantastic time.

Squeeze scare the hell out of me as a kid.

I'm a Supernatural junkie, so I understand the monster of the week and mythology other weeks setup very well. So I am not dissuaded at all. I appreciate the input.

Wow, I forgot DVD's ever costed that much a season, and I feel like $40 for tv blu's are way too over priced now.

I remember those days. Buying it on Day One in Canada was $129. I don't regret it, but I do wish I just waited a few years.
Don't like it?
Don't buy it.

I've just finished the first 4 episodes of the series. Squeeze became instantly more fun as soon as Tooms was revealed to be Doug Hutchison, not to mention I've never seen Donal Logue so young or without a beard before, lol. I am fully enjoying my time with the X-Files, even If I am only one disc in. I will let you guys know more after I get through another disc hopefully sometime in the afternoon.

I have the whole collection I got the Ultimate box set for Christmas a few years ago and I loved the show growing up. You will enjoy all the cameo's from a lot of different actors and actresses that are now fairly popular but weren't back then. I know I spotted quite a few when I watched the whole series a few years back.

It really didn't take me long at all to finish the whole thing probably 2 months, I was suprised how fast I got through 9 seasons worth and two movies.
