In IMAX theaters both had a "put your glasses on now" bit at the end (OOtP had 20 minutes and HBP had 13 minutes). WB said they were going to finish the conversion of them and re-re-re-re-release them as 3DBd's. In the meantime, if these were "ultimate" editions they could easily have included the completed 3D sequence in the special features (ala the "Ring of Fire" sequence in the Spartacus prequel season). I wish WB would start doing if they have no intention of releasing a 3D version (like with the 20 minutes of 3D in Superman Returns).
Now running in 3D with the LG Cinema 3D (nominally showing 3D in 1080i per eye) 47LW6500 (up-or-down-or-side-graded from a 50" Sammy 3D Plasma) and a Benq W1070 and a 100" screen, and controlling it with a Harmony 880.

I bought the first two UEs because they included extended versions of the films. Then I bought 3 and 4 even though they weren't extended, but I was hoping future UE releases would be. Now I've given up hope of getting any more extended versions (at least any time soon) and am considering selling my UEs and just buying the upcoming box set with all 8 films.

I got an email from Columbia House that says all the Harry Potter dvds are being retired, like Disney putting movies in the vault. Anyone have any idea what that means in regards to an eventual ultimate editions set? Maybe that would be out by Xmas 2012?

They aren't going back. It's just new shipments won't be sent to retailers. All the copies that are left in stores will still be available for sale.

They're being "retired" temporarily. We all know they'll never be gone really because HP is Warner's biggest money maker. And yes, there will be probably be a huge boxset with all the ultimate editions and other collectible stuff.

as long as they eventually come out and are in the same "format" as the rest of the UE's, box type and what not so they are uniform w/the rest of the set.....i'll be happy.

yes, Bill Hunt at The Digital Bits confirmed with the studio that after the moratorium, while there will also probably be new versions of the movies (and likely a mega-set), they will also release the Deathly Hallows UE's to match the rest of the previously released volumes.

So, if I own none of the ultimate editions, but want them,
It is better to wait a year, in case the only way to get the DH ultimate eiditons is in the "Super-Ultimate 8 Movie 24-Disc Ultimate Eiditon"? |

The contents are unknown but I think it's a pretty good shot that it'll just be the Ultimate Editions packaged as one with maybe a disc or two of new stuff. |

I agree, but there is always the off-chance that they don't release DH1 and DH2 seperately, and then I have to buy the whole set, of 24 discs or whatever, anyways.
Honsetly, I would rather wait for the whole set, which has actually been my plan since the get go (I just pick up used copies of the DVDs for cheap in the meantime). The only thing is, you never know if they will completely screw up the packaging of the 24-disc set. I know Warner is no Disney, but you never know. |

The 2012 definitive set will be the one to wait for. Will just tide myself over with the regular bluray combo packs until then. I figure that set will come in a fancy box which will be a lot smaller then all the ultimate edition cases side by side.

Of course, space is not really an issue for me, so I guess for some people it's actually better. As for your comment about the definitive edition. How likely is it thats its box will be smaller than all 8 Ultimates side-by-side? Again, I would prefer it to be as large as all eight, if not larger, but then again, I have space, and realize a lot of people don't. Really, as long as its decently long, and the movies are in normal sized boxes I'll be happy. What I mean by this, is a lot of major boxsets inexplicably don't have the movie in a normal case, and the other stuff seperate. So far, the Ultimate HP Editions don't have this problem, if Youtube's unboxing videos are to be believed. But stuff like the Alien Version With Egg requires you to store the dicss underneath the egg! I would rather have the discs seperate, in a box something like the Alien Anthology box, with the egg seperate. The Inception briefcase editon has it right, in my opinion. Inside the briefcase is the normal standard Inception box, that you can buy anywhere. All the other stuff is seperate. The fact that companies don't release all special editions like this is astounding to me. I actually look at unboxing videos on Youtube before I ever buy a boxet, for just this reason. My own brother got burned with the 300 limited editon (this is the DVD I am talking about; incidentally, it's also the only movie he ever bought I believe), where the discs are actually stored in the artbook!! It is literally one of the most asinine things I have seen. Like, you have this monstrous artbook that won't fit on the DVD shelf, but then if you store the artbook with your other artbooks, then your discs are seperated. Luckily, I own it on Blu now too, but it's this kind of wretched packaging that aggravates me. Anyways, that was a bit offtopic, but my main point was that as long as the Definitive Edition has each movie in a normal-sized box seperate from all the other stuff, I'll be happy. |
