I personally think that it is, more so now then I did when I first saw it. (I am only a couple of years older than you)
I remember when I first saw it I was high on Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back and I though CE was so slow and boring.
Then I saw it years later and loved it.
Will give you my opinion on how it holds up to nostalgia in a few hours.

Did you see how large the case was for the DVD version? It must be two inches thick!

When I went into work at Wal Mart this morning(11am) there were no copies left, and when I left at 8pm there were two copies. I'm guessing that we had them in the back and when they were sold out they re-stocked them. Anyway it turns out that the ones sold at Wal Mart include the soundtrack cd. Since I already have the soundtrack I will most likely get this at the Fry's behind the Wal Mart I work at, if they have any left at $29.99 Thursday when I get paid.

Sorry, I would never buy something cause I felt bad it for someone, esp. someone like Speilberg, who def. does not need the money.

Come on dude! Speilberg has made plenty off this hit. Bluray, and HD movies overall still has not won over the public at larger. Many people I know are still happy with the image that dvds provide. People like you and I are in the minority. Sure, HD is waaaay better than regular dvds, but still dvds display a pretty good picture quality. Its not like they are vhs tape quality. Movies that I like, but do not consider to be in my top 10%, I have not upgraded those to bluray, and I probably will not until I can get them for $10 or cheaper.

And a movie like Close Encounters, is fairly old. This movie has sold well throughout the years. Maybe over the years it will sell better on bluray, but dont buy something cause you feel bad for the company or the director, esp. if its a product you personally do not care about. Jesus, people never stop surprising me.

I also picked up the CE3K Ultimate Edition at Wal-Mart this past spring for $15. Still see it there from time to time at that same price.

The new Silver Screen column is up, covering Close Encounters of the Third Kind. See the Blu-ray.com front page top news. Interviews, behind-the-scenes, rare posters. Hope you all enjoy it!
