Default 720P to 1080P upgrade question - 720P source

I have been thinking about upgrading from MITS 1600 a 720P projector to a Panny 3000 or 4000 projector. However, a lot of what I watch is actually 720p source. But I wonder how much improvement in the image there would be due to the other improvements in the projector such as contrast ratio, etc.

I'm also wondering if money would be better spent on a new screen. I have a basic da-lite screen that is pull down. It does have some 'waves'. It would be great to have a 'flattened' screen although it must retract.

Also, another big concern on upgrading or not is would I have to move my mount if I went from MITS to PANNY? I'd think that I could dial in the new projector with the adjustments easily enough without moving it, but I'm not that technical with this stuff. I had a friend help set up the projector a few years ago and I thankfully haven't had to touch it yet.

The bulb is about to go out, so I could either take it down to replace bulb - or take it down and replace it.

I'm sure most folks will say upgrade upgrade upgrade.. honestly I think the picture looks great - and I like the look of film - I would hope the Panny still has a film-like look. If it looked anything like new tv sets that don't look like film at all, I would flip out and want my old projector back.

Thanks for any feedback!

New tv sets that don't look like film? Do you meant the optional post processing effects (image interpolation) or ....? If you do I agree, things such as motion flow look awful but I'm not entirely sure what you mean if you aren't talking about the above. (clarification?)
