I see there is some love for Van Damme on here, but I was curious if anyone cared about some Blu-Rays from the Big Swede? Not many releases for any of his older films exist in North America besides Johnny Mnemonic and Universal Soldier. Here's a list of films that I feel deserve Blu-Ray treatment for Dolph:
1. Men of War: highly underrated Expendables clone with excellent cinematography. 2. I Come in Peace: fun buddy cop film with some sci-fi twists. 3. Silent Trigger: low budget but stylish action film directed by Russell Mulcahy (Highlander). 4. Army of One: great over-the-top action flick reminiscent of Commando style brutality. 5. Punisher: after seeing Jane's version, I think his is better, but I still enjoy Dolph's older take. 6. The Mechanic (Russian Specialist): pretty good revenge flick directed by Dolph and also quite brutal. I know most people don't think much of him, but he does have some hidden gems in his filmography; However, there are many others to avoid. ![]() Last edited by Diesel; 09-18-2012 at 03:59 AM. |

I would want The Punisher on Blu-ray. That one was my favorite of the three films. And yes, I know he didn't have the skull on his shirt...

Always game for some more Dolph on Blu-ray, I have a few of his lesser titles that has been issued on BD in Europe (quality going from inferior to decent).

As I said above, Men of War received a release through Miramax as a double feature with the film Brava Two Zero:
![]() I was fortunate enough to come across this at Walmart for only $5. Sadly, the aspect ratio has been altered to 1.78:1 from 2.35:1. Not a huge deal to me, but I'm sure others might steer clear due to this. On the plus side, the video was definitely much sharper compared to my U.S. DVD release. On the other hand, the audio--DTS-HD MA 2.0--didn't seem all that much better from the DVD but certainly serviceable. Perhaps this film will get a standalone release with the original aspect ratio down the line, but I can't complain too much for only $5. |
